We're still in with a chance of automatic promotion and play offs. Drawing against Gillingham is not the end of the world. Granted performance wasn't great but Im no bedwetter. Its grim over the road. Fickle or what, well some are

Obviously a massive disappointment giving away a sloppy but well taken goal at the death. We are all feeling down and I’m sure the players are to. They will either get together and push on from here or feel sorry for themselves and let it affect them at Bristol on Tuesday night. Hopefully the former. Not long to dwell on this result which might work in our favour. Fingers crossed but there will be plenty twists and turns for all the teams before the season finishes. Keep the faith it’s going to be a bumpy ride to the end.

I think Bailey Wright is i big miss. Defence was better with him in it.

Havent read any reports yet (cos am still hungover) but thought Gillingham were nowt special yet our goalie was probs MotM. He made 4 decent saves which meant we would have and should have been hammered.
Gucchi has deffo gone off the boil the last few games whilst Declan John has just disappeared totally. I thought he was brought in as cover for Hume.

Lafferty proved his worth yesterday and given game time I think semi is going to prove his worth. Big powerful lad with pace. Get them both on against Bristol and see how it goes.

Disappointed with PP's subs yesterday. Went to close up shop and hang on. They were chasing the game we should have had Dunc and semi running the ball down to the corner and running the clock down.
Scowen 2 mins to go. I would have taken a short corner and ran the clock down. He produced the worst corner I have ever seen ffs.

Yeah McLaughlin looked a bit nervy in general but he made some cracking saves to keep us in it for the point, I said yesterday he was prob our man of the match.

I could see where Parky was coming from with the subs, they should have been able to close the game out but they let him down. Just goes to show how dangerous it can be trying to park the bus one goal up because Gillingham were crap but still scored.

Where did that 6 minutes come from? Far more time wasting by Gillingham in the first half and only two minutes injury time..

Cheers. Looked like the throw-in went straight onto the head of one of their biggest players. Dobson, I think, was the only player anywhere near the second ball. We needed to react to that better.

Just watched the replay, and I really think the wrong players have gone under the bus.

In the last match, Gooch gave up the ball cheaply and often. Today, I didn't see him give up the ball even once. He and Denver Hume executed no less than three give and goes at the business end of the pitch in the first half alone.

Denver Hume was our cutting edge today. That cross for the first goal was perfect, but his cutback to Lafferty, not long before that provided Lafferty with his best chance of the day, which he didn't take. Most of his balls into the box found one of ours. I don't now how he's gotten slated for his defense as Gillingham basically attacked exclusively down the center of the pitch. He was manhandled badly on one occassion by Hanlan, but many others struggled against the burly forward as well.

Dobson strips the ball from the attacker in the middle of the park, and a 1/2 second later slots Lafferty in with a world class through ball and he was poor today? I only saw him and O9 make one errant pass each today.

For me, if you're looking for a culprit - it was Willis. Just like in that recent match where we conceded 2 goals from set pieces, all 4 of those deliveries came to the man Willis was marking. I believe our opponents are targeting our 5'10" central defender with no leaping ability.

Overall, I thought our passing was very good. We completed 3 passes for every minute of the match, even though Gillingham were trying to turn the match into a 'scrappy' one, by playing 'kickball' after the half time break.

Kyle Lafferty has explained his celebration for his first Sunderland goal.

As the ball hit the back of the net the 32-year-old ran straight to the Sunderland dug-out where he picked out Sunderland's long-serving kit man John Cooke and giving him a big cuddle.
Why? Lafferty revealed the heart-warming, thoughtful reason after the game.
He said: "Yesterday we were told that Cookie's Dad died. Cookie is one of the boys, everyone loves him, so I said if I scored I would dedicate the goal to him and his Dad. I think it was only right to go over to him."

Power roasted him fir not being 20 yards further forward when he played a ball a young Ronaldo wouldn’t have caught at full pace. It was an awful pass! Certainly not Humes fault. But he put the ball in the box 4 or 5 times! Without those 2 we’d have scored none today! That’s not me saying they played well, just that they did exactly what the needed to!

Whatever the ins and outs of our football under Ross and Parkinson, it seems like our team spirit is better ...

... that could make all the difference, especially if we're in the play offs.

Not sure what game some people are watching at times , Gooch and Maguire and our back three were poor to-day imo, the rest were fine. OaU
