A great servant to the club, but forever a legend. What more can you say. his mark is made, sleep well mate, but you are a far way from being forgotten. still in my mind and many others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q9qUhjGwig&feature=related
Wish the club would think about a plaque or monument to recognise the whole 73 team and the last man to score a winning goal at wembley for us and the whole NE. Stokoe has one on his own but what about the team?
Never going to happen mate. I think the Stokoe statue is representing the whole '73 squad. To be fair it manages to do this very well. Whenever I see it I can't help thinking where he was running to...And the memories come flooding back. I don't think one Sunderland player actuallty thought they would win that day. You see it on their faces, they really really couldn't believe what they had just done.
I have the BBC copy of the match on DVD with David Coleman commentating. Its a bloody tear jerker every time I watch it. I think think however, that ITV have the best footage of the Stokoe/Monty moment from what I have seen over the years with Brian Moore commentating. I dont think a full copy of the ITV version exists doest it? As for the Stokoe statue, it represents the FA Cup Final win but doesnt represent the players for me. I think a separate plaque near the main entrance would be better. After all, they are STILL the last team form the NE (not some smog filled north Yorkshire club) to actually lift a trophy and should be recognised for me. it would hardly be cost prohibitive and maybe some of that Gyan monthly donation could go towards it.
Totally agree, you cant buy a moment intime like that, as for a plaque or whatever to honour those lads, Im on for some dosh, after all arnt we all on the wall at the SOL? SO WHY NOT THEM.
