I hate the daily mail but this made me laugh. Do you think Jos wants to stay?!?!??!? He's rapidly going up in my estimations!!!!!! I think it also shows the spirit is right at the club and anyone who comes in sees it and wants to be a part of it. For those who can't access the link he's the article: Southampton defender Jos Hooiveld believes the fine team spirit at St Mary's Stadium is the key to continuing their impressive start to the season. The Dutchman, on loan at the npower Championship side from Celtic, scored in the Carling Cup third round win over Preston in midweek. Table-toppers Saints put their fine run to the test on Saturday when they visit Burnley and the much-travelled Hooiveld claims the way Southampton are playing reminds him of a strong European side. Hooiveld played on loan at FC Copenhagen last season and sees similarities between his current team-mates and those he played with in Denmark. He was particularly impressed with how the players who came in for the Carling Cup tie adapted after numerous changes from the side which beat Birmingham 4-1 last Sunday to go top of the table. 'We've got an amazing squad after making 10 changes, and you can see from the way that we play football, sometimes it's brilliant, it reminds me of playing in European football,' he told the club's official website. 'It's down to the coach and how he wants to play, we train a lot on that and you can see that it's coming out. 'I think we have got a similar way of playing as Copenhagen last year, and they went into the final 16 of the Champions League. I don't think there's a big gap between us and Copenhagen.' Manager Nigel Adkins will have Danny Fox back for the trip to his former club after being cup-tied for the Preston game and he will come in as Dan Harding has a knee problem. Goalkeeper Kelvin Davis and defenders Frazer Richardson and Jose Fonte are all expected to return after being rested against Preston. Second-placed Middlesbrough are at home to Ipswich and in the other Saturday games Birmingham face Barnsley, Bristol City take on Hull, Coventry meet Reading and derby face Millwall. Doncaster are at home to Crystal Palace, Portsmouth play Blackpool, Watford take on Nottingham Forest and West Ham face Peterborough. Cardiff are at home to Leicester on Sunday, the same team they knocked out of the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
I found it funny how the Daily Mail picked up on his words, to be fair I LOVE this sort of attention so I say well done Mr Hooiveld and yes he's definatly going up in my expectations!!
The headline is a bit strong for what he actually said on Player, but the rest of article matches what he said. He loves it here and says how together the whole team are and how they welcomed him. Very complimentary and well worth listening to. Says he is unclear what will happen at the end of his loan spell..says Celtic may want him back, Saints may want him or no one may want him. Very down to earth.
To be fair, it seems the club have made a great impression on nearly every loan signing under Adkins (N'Guessan maybe being the exception)
For me it shows how far we have come and what a great place it is to play football atm. Just hope we can pick up another 3 away at the weekend. Not that I'm being greedy or anything!
"If we win on Saturday it will be my official 'I do believe' moment. " my first will be when it is mathematically impossible for us to be relegated!!!
Quite a compliment to be honest.......but we do need to keep our feet on the ground. They do play some really good football at times....but that is the problem......at times. Other times they go off the boil.....which as we all know you cannot do that at a higher level. They are getting there but just not quite yet.
It's the latter. Grew up watching Glen Cockerill, Jimmy Case, Kevin Moore etc. When a tackle meant something!
I would hope we're as good as Copenhagen tbh. But it's good to see him enjoying himself, and he's impressed so far.
This article has appeared in the BBC gossip column with the headline "Jos Hooiveld says Saints are good enough for the champions league", there's one way of exaggerating a quote!?
Apparently Jos Hooiveld has been qouted saying we are good enough for Champions League! One step at a time Jos please! But i do like his enthisiasm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/9598995.stm
Aha beat you to it I think it's just been exaggerated from "Saints remind me of Copenhagen" > "Saints are exactly like champions league side Copenhagen" > "Saints are good enough for the champions league"
