Of course they are. Mathematically. Just in the same way as Swansea and Liverpool are still mathematically in the race for the title.
He's right if we win all our matches we will win the league. Mathmatically this is true. ok second if united go unbeated.
I appreciate that a manager has to do all he can to encourage the team but this is just so silly and it makes the club sound silly. On form, this statement would be fantasy and indeed our manager is right on form. If we beat Bolton and get through the home tie of the CL he'll be saying we were still in four competitions. This type of announcement does him or us no credit at all and only brings scorn. If we are due more of the same then I really do think he should make it easier on himself and all of us.......
The real dose of reality is this. You have never been in contention for winning the title, not even when you had a half-decent team. To even suggest that you might be in the running to win the EPL with the shambles of a team that you currently have is way past wummery. We are now into the realms of tragi-comedy. I like Wenger. I like him a lot. But I do wish he'd stop with his "this is how Mr Bean would be if he could talk" routine
I think The Guardian took a bit of journalistic licence here http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/sep/23/arsene-wenger-premier-league-arsenal? Arsene didn't quite say that we were in the title race, rather that it was far from over. Only one who was optimistic beyond belief would imagine that we were in with a chance of the title.
From a supporter of a team who have not won the PL for fifty years this is a bit rich. Wenger and his teams have won 3 PL titles in his 14 years at the club. You seem to be spending more time on here than on the Spuds board.
Dude you are chatting rubbish. We've been in contention pretty much every season with 5 games to go, so what are you on about ??
"The only thing we can do is focus on our performances, win our games and ..............." oooohh is that all ? yeah right...... looks like we made a good start dont it.
That his problem , hes great at talking about upcoming games and what needs to be done. And the embarrasing failures that have just occurred he sweeps under the carpet. What i want him to say is . " to be honest folks... i aint got a clue how to set the team out to win now...... im offski. "
I've read other reports which all claim Wenger was hinting at the title. While at this stage in theory all may not be lost, the reality is quite different. If he could wave a magic wand for all the ills of the team to come right then yes, perhaps anything is possible. But Arsene does not hold the key to the ending of our woes. His decision-making offers no evidence of this, in the absence of which he really should quietly work to put things right and spring a surprise on everyone with results as opposed to making pronouncements which amount to nothing but hot air.
Wenger has gotta go sometime , it may as well be now when hes clearly unable to change the way the team play to face new challenges. Dont be afraid to embrace the Unknown , the future. Wenger has had enough chances to prove that he is capable of competing at the highest level . He says himself that we only play one way , the Arsenal way , well guess what ? After 6 years all the other managers know exactly what that is and have countered it. Newcastle managed to adapt in the space of a half time break ffs. 4 nil up .. to 4 - 4 in 45 mins. If he cant change he should step aside.
