I'm relieved that the draw has kept apart the big teams. That defeat to Spurs doesn't feel as bad now.
Not condoning it, but being physical or potentially assaulting someone like that isn't the way to solve it. Not good on him, in my opinion, from one viewpoint. Though Mourinho has denied it was racism anyway, but something to do with Dier's brother. Who knows, but I'm sure we'll hear all about it shortly.
Yeah something to do with his brother apparently. You can't act like that though, at least a years ban incoming I reckon.
Dier in real trouble...there is no mitigation strong enough to prevent the FA coming down on him hard. This could have caused crowd trouble. The Eric Cantona incident comes to mind....minus the cowardly kick to a man's face with a football boot.
Yes I think so too - the fact that he went to the guy and on the video looks like he is punching him. If this was a fan just going up a couple of rows and doing this, it would be a lifetime ban from the stadium. Maybe Spurs will ban Dier from the stadium lol and he can only play away games
Just to play devil's advocate for a minute, I can fully understand his actions when it was a member of his family involved in the altercation and i'm getting sick of these bad loser "supporters" who think it is ok to mouth any kind of abuse at players just because they reckon they have payed for that privilege. He acted as most people would but I accept that he has to get punished because it would set a dangerous precedent otherwise.
I think its fine to jump into the crowd and confront an angry mob................just don't moan about it when you get your arse kicked!
Yeah I understand where he's coming from on a personal level of course but ultimately he's a professional and simply can't behave that way. Could have easily sparked some major disorder and the excuse doesn't justify it imo. If I started whacking someone next week at Carrow Road because they started on my brother in law then I'm sure I'd still receive a 3 year ban. And I'm sure the majority on here would agree that I deserved it. If his brother can't handle people slagging a football player off without causing problems then he probably shouldn't attend football matches imo.
8 months for Cantona, I believe. I appreciate that was 25 years ago, but I would be very surprised if Dier was punished worse than Eric.
Need to look at this from a few angles. Celebrate with the crowd - a yellow Jump into the crowd with a karate kick - 8 month ban Run into the crowd in a inflammatory manner - somewhere in between No point persecuting him, but not sure why people are defending him either.
