The importance of being Ledley

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Sep 23, 2011.

  1. Apparently, we've won the last six matches that Ledley has featured in the starting XI.

If ever there was a case for a player being deemed irreplaceable...

Superb centre back. One of the best in the world, IMO. Very few read the game better. Such a shame about his knee problrem.

King is simple an outstanding defender, when he's fit.
It's more than just his ability to read a game, take up the right positions and make a tackle, though.
He organises the whole defensive unit brilliantly.
Everyone around him plays better when he's in the side.

Gallas has a similar, if slightly diminished, effect.
I hope that our other centre-backs are learning from this.
Caulker played with some very experienced defenders and with David James at Bristol City last season, so I hope that he can see what's required.

  5. Surely, there can be no better teacher?

What is edifying, is that you just know that Ledley is going to be our defensive coach for the 20 or 30 years after he hangs up his playing boots.

The future is bright, the future is lillywhite.

Looks like Kaboul has been learning from him. He's been excellent alongside King and also against Stoke.

  7. Dawson has certainly learned from King. Remember when Tevez stated that Dawson was the best English CB he'd ever faced? How much of that was due to King's master tutorage?

Since 2007/08, Tottenham have won 55% of their league games with King starting, compared to just 34% without him.

  9. Wow! What a stat!

And it's even more impressive when you bear in mind the dreadful players and managers we've had during his tenure at Spurs!

Absolutely superb player, makes defending look easy, I`m just praying we can get 20+ games out of our Rolls-Royce captain this season.

Without the knee problem he is a shoe-in as England centre half and probably poached from us long ago. You hear the term natural ability bandied about a lot. How many players could actually put in Ledley's kind of performances without training?

  12. In time, Ledley will join the pantheon of Spurs players, and will rightly be proclaimed a god!

  14. The best I could have come up with is "The Godhead."

But "King of Gods" is better.

And that's not even taking into account that many of the games King played in were actually the tougher ones we faced in the Premier League.

And your point is? Nobody on here has said that he's a perfect human being - very few of us are. So the guy got drunk, and made a twat out himself - big deal. It's not something new, people like Bellamy, and a certain Jack Wilshere, do it every other week. Bellamy is still a bloody good footballer - and Ledley is still one of the best centre backs in the world.

So,he's not a saint. Maybe you are, as you seem so keen to throw stones.

Anyway that was 2 years ago and as far as we know he hasn't done anything like that since.
Think he's got his career to worry about.
    Wum!
