Fans at Elland Road were bizarrely singing "we support our local team" on Tuesday night. Was just wondering how wrong they actually were about our fanbase as a whole - very much so I suspect! Obviously 'local team' should only mean professional team - otherwise I'd have to claim Guiseley or Farsley were mine!
yer don't think there's any professional teams of note between Crewe and Leeds, unless you count Stockport.
When I was 5 years old my two cousins aged 9 and 13 wanted me to support their teams (they were brothers). I knew nothing about football, one offered me a man u badge and a hat, the other offered me a badge, pennant, scarf and wrist band of Leeds United and that was it. Lucky escape and for anyone wondering yes I can still be brought but I am more expensive now
Im from Dewsbury Leeds is my local team so therefore I qualify to sing "I support my local team" Next you will b having a go at people singing "You fat Bastard" if they have a BMI over 10
To be fair, the song was "we support our local team", with the implication being that Leeds fans do and scum fans don't. I found it a bit silly because I'm proud that we have fans all over the world, some of whom will have made the familiar trip to Elland Road on Tuesday.
Chapel Alerton..... is where i spent my early years..so i count but old fella in the forces so off we went up and down the country.... but my dad brought me up right... in all white with a bit of yellow
Just worked it out now Elland road is 4.8 miles from my house, the Girlfarm is 9.5Miles I live in Hanging Heaton!
I was born 30 miles from London,40 miles from Ipswich,& 20 miles from both Southend & Colchester. There must be at least 50 clubs who are more local to me than Leeds, but at school it wasn't unusal to be a Leeds fan, probably one in four of us were. So I guess we were among the first glory hunters,& once in your blood that's it. Been through the lows with Leeds too, following our relegation in '82,going to places like Oxford(when we were 2-0 up & ended up losing 5-2),& Gillingham. Used to belong to East Anglian Supporters Branch to make access to home games easier, haviing to drive 40 miles to Cambridge to get to the coach pick-up point(it was also cheaper that way,& easier to get away tickets). Nowadays it costs me over £120 including petrol to make the 450 mile round trip to Elland Road,so have to choose my home games carefully.
I was born in York and lived here for most of my life. My dad took me to see Leeds United when I was 6 (1974) and so it all began. I love Leeds United and always have through thick and thin. I think I'm as passionate about Leeds United as anyone from Leeds. I must admit I'm very jealous of you lot with your season tickets and the ability to just pop along to the ground. Unfortunately family and mortgage have to come first. Thank you for letting a Yorkie join the fun. MOT
you can be anywhere in the world , but when Lufc is in your heart you are Local !!!! btw i'm in Batley
There's a big members club in Essex isn't there that does regular travel to home and aways? £20 for the return coach to Elland Road, it says on their website.
I live 600 miles away with Irish sea in between, still consider Leeds my local team and I dare anyone to prove otherwise
I said "yes", I hail from Farsley, but now I think about it I actually think my house is closer to Valley Parade than Elland Road. Edit: Just checked, by car, Leeds Uniteds great and wonderful Elland Road Stadium is 0.2 miles closer to my house than Bratfud ****ty's horrible eyesore of Valley Parade. Or, as it's now known, the "Bradford and Bingley Stadium". That's how it shows up on google maps, whereas ours is labelled as "Leeds United FC".
