Seen the light mate or more correctly seen the future Mrs. Obviously giving up the dog shagging was a bit of a blow but with everything there are sacrifices to be made.
Lots of reasons people get into Jobs, mine isn't very interesting but it pays well enough. I'd rather be in an office than out in the pissing down rain doing some manual labour though.
There's one or two more mate but I can't divulge names. I am on the phones all day though, can be boring.
Bullshitting estate agents. I fall out with them frequently when I ask why they're lying. The property market is so transparent nowadays that you can only be lied to if you let them lie to you. There are good agents out there, usually the independents who aren't about volume sales books or a quick commission as they have to think about closing genuine deals and recommendations for the long term.
Currently house hunting so definitely agree with this. We're selling ours ourselves to avoid the twats.
If your not ‘forced’ upon with a faith then by default you’ve been forced and drip fed an Atheist philosophy...you just got it mixed up with being ‘normal’ like most Atheists do
Perhaps, but youre assuming an atheist will push that philosophy onto thier kids, in my experience thats simply not true, if anything being raised without faith leaves room for someone to find it themsleves. Which i believe can be more authentic than being told "this is your god" and thats the way it is, follow it or be a considered a bad Catholic, Muslim , Buddhist.. whatever. Whereas parents of faith seldom give that freedom to their children, religion by design is restriction, rules and boundaries, in both ones acts and thoughts imo. Imagine a universal law if you can for a second, one which meant that no one under 18 could enter into any faith or be taught any faith til they were of adult age, i seriously doubt if any faiths would last more than few generations if such a law existed. Just my thoughts on it really mate
Interesting argument, only issue with it that I can see is that kids become self aware a lot earlier than 18 and will question their existence, if there's no religion to give a set of ideas then they may become open to other forms of exploitation that will inevitably replace religion. Not that religion is exploitation (some may disagree there). So the foundations of religion that are in general be a good person would be replaced with law, legislation, rules etc and they will be decided on by a group of people (government) so instead of listening to God/Allah/whoever we'd be listening to Boris.
But this is my point...Atheist philosophies are pushed onto you...you dont see them. For everyday you are not told about God...you grow up thinking their is no God. Therefore you have been indoctrinated...you just didn’t see it coming. Religion by design is not ‘restriction’, it’s rules and regs like with anything in life....even your washing machine mate...that comes with rules. Everything needs guidance and the essence of faith is to make people better. Humans however are corrupt by nature. The ex mother in law used to be like...I let my own kids choose their own faith... No you didn’t, you didn’t open your kids to all the religious scriptures and ask them to choose. You raised them without any religious teaching therefore you raised them Athiest and the older they get the more it is ingrained into their own belief system their is no God. That’s their starting point.
I think most people that grow up in a secular environment aren't Atheist as such, more agnostic. I wouldn't say they are being indoctrinated into a belief that there is no God, but more as Sucky says being allowed to find their own spiritual path. For some, this never happens. It's something you have to connect with, and if you don't, then that's something I think people miss out on. Faith and religion are useful tools for giving people a framework to explore these ideas, but I don't think an established religion is necessary to find spiritual enlightenment.
Their something aren’t they? Athiest or Agnostic...either way...they weren’t raised with their own will, with a God being part of the possibilities and at the forefront of their parents conversations when discussing belief with their kids. Their kids belief was angled towards that of their parents....that’s the point Sucky was trying to defy...but I don’t believe it. Athiests/Agonstics are far from free spirits...they are a brick wall who usually have zero inclination to put anything down to a God. They are so indoctrinated it’s unbelievable.
Dunno where you get that idea from. Pretty much every friend I have who is atheist comes from a religious family. My parents are non-practicing Christians and I'm atheist. All the atheist friends I've had since primary school have had religion shoved down their throat in assemblies, teaching, etc. I went to cubs when I was a kid and the first thing they made us do was recite the Lord's Prayer. It's been impossible until maybe the last 15 years or so to be brought up in a non-religious environment. How do you account for atheists over the age of 25?
You're always going to be influenced by your parents beliefs, but Atheist and Agnostic are quite different in this context. One specifically says there is no God, the other leaves the existence open, which for me suggests it allows a person to explore the ideas for themselves.
I don't think that's true of agnostics, I've found them quite open to all possibilities it's just that they understand there's no way of actually knowing and that it's a matter of faith.
You took the teachings of Orthodox Christianity from Cub scouts...that was your first mistake...that’s like leaving Nickelodeon to raise your kids. I got my idea from knowing such types and having read/studied lots of Athiest/religion debates and having mixed with all sorts in the past 25 years or so of my life tbh.
