So as an expat, with a round trip of 10,000 miles per journey from the US I don't get to see many live games. Last year, I saw five grouped into two trips: Sheffield U (A) W Reading (H) L Portsmouth (A) W Preston (H) W Ipswich (A) D Don't think I did too badly. in the grand scheme of things But with it being Bristol City tomorrow, it brings back major memories of May 2008. The youngest and I thought we would do it in style, cashed in some miles and flew first class only to find we were sitting close to a father and son Bristol City supporters. Don't know who the bloke was but when we chatted about our respective seats for the game, I was completely outclassed, this bugger was in the Royal Box. Turns out he was a good friend of the BC Chairman or maybe his personal accountant in a prior life. Good banter and everything so really looking forward to my trip to Ashton gate tomorrow. Still in the US but flying in overnight and hoping for three points at BC plus another 6 in the next two games against Donny and Cardiff. It's a long way to return with nothing...
Hope you have a good trip. Not a bad ground at BC; saw the 2008 away game at their place and thought we did ok, but lost. Near miss in the dying minutes. That was made Wembley even better.
I'm pretty sure we drew with Reading at home last year? Anyway, it's nice to here of someone so committed. I can honestly say I'd struggle to do the same.
If we drew, great. Age does something to the memory cells. I do knowfor sure, we beat Pompey and Sheff U though, most enjoyable! Basically, it's a religion when you have followed them since 1970. Doesn't matter if its Premier, Division 1, 2, 3, or 4 you still go. The 90s were the true wilderness years, I remember Orient in the Great Escape season. We get minimal holiday over here but what you do get is always tied around the English football season.
I remember Craig fagan hitting the post in the 89th minute, wish I could say it changed our season.. But it didn't.. Also will always remember phil brown clapping the city fans when walking down the tunnel, good touch.
Not a bad selection of games mate. We drew twice with Reading last season though. Wish i'd gone to Sheff Utd away last Boxing Day. What a cracker.
Good to see you on Not606, Greene (permanent conversion from CI??). Enjoy your trip. Here's hoping your point haul continues!
I'm committed enough to go no matter what division, I was referring more to the fact that you come all the way from the US just to watch City play.
Been to Ashton Gate twice - first time opening day defeat in 82 - Billy Askews first game (on loan I believe that day) lost 1-0 and then again on Easter bank holiday circa 1985 in the Pete Skipper days - lost again 2-0 i think - Horton promotion season. Even in our 2007-08 promotion season lost 2-1 after outplaying them. Hopefully tomorrow (sorry today now) brings better news.
Thanks for reminding me, just realised I saw six games last season. I got the Leicester game mixed up with Reading. We lost at home to Leicester but got a point against Reading.
