Ultimately, this is the bit I don't think I'll ever be able to get past. And the bit that I can't ever see improving. They've obviously completely ****ed up the implementation of course and there's things they could improve on such as a time limit and the ridiculous offside decisions. But the simple fact is that once you've decided to review every goal then the damage is done. Even if other aspects are improved then that is still a fundamental change which completely ruins the live spectacle of the game (imo). Up and down the country we're seeing bigger cheers for technology disallowing goals than for the ball actually hitting the back of the net. It's not football anymore.
Without VAR there's zero chance the lino doesn't immediately give Sigurdsson as offside and risk being labelled the worst linesman in history if it happened to take a tiny deflection off him after he'd been sat in an offside position for half an hour. Only VAR gave the officials the chance to see Sigurdsson had no impact on the goal being scored and change that decision. Don't blame VAR just because PGMOL wasted that chance.
topknot's view on Maguire before he was linked to United. Internet stream football "fans" https://www.not606.com/threads/best...tournament-so-far.363979/page-2#post-11915472
They ignored the fact that the reason he was sat on the floor was that he’d been wiped out by Wan Bissaka. VAR ignored this. He wasn’t in the eyeline of De Gea, as he was sat down, De Gea is 6ft 4” and clearly moves to his right to try and save the shot. VAR ignored this. Which then cannons off Maguire, and flies into the net, making it an OG. How can you be offside when it’s an OG? VAR ignored this.
i only saw that disallowed goal for the first time last night. Encapsulated everything that is wrong with VAR. Like Libby and Archie though, for me it’s more about how it kills the enjoyment for fans. I’d rather live with the ref making some mistakes than VAR ruining the spirit of the game.
