Hes one example of Spurs fans being a set of ****s early doors to a manager who didn’t manage at a rival team
Wolves play in a Mourinho style, possibly because their coach played under him at Sporting. They're really happy to concede possession and territory and play on the break, so I wouldn't get too enthused over those stats. That's how they like to play. Also, they tend to concentrate their efforts on the later stages of games, letting their opponents 'play themselves out' before killing them off late in the second half. They beat us at Wembley with 3 second half goals and earlier that season scored 2 second half goals to come close to pegging back a 3-0 half time deficit. Sunday they were behind at half time. Not a problem. On Sunday, they did us again because we can't defend worth a damn. RCL does some really good work on this. You should re-read his stuff. We've conceded 2 or more goals in half of every game we've played under Mourinho. Wolves just waited for us to play ourselves out and then did us. We actually scored 2 goals (something that we won't be doing too often in the remains of this season) but our complete lack of structure and defensive nous did for us and we lost again (we'll be seeing plenty of that). I get people believing that he'll sort things out. I do not agree with that belief, but I get it. However, I can't escape the fact that, right now, we can't defend or control a game to save our lives. If you're a team having goal scoring issues, I would expect the coach to be working on being harder to beat. However we're as open as we were when Kane and Sonny were playing. The problem is that we're not scoring three goals a game anymore...so expect to see us continue to drop down the league. I don't think that we have to play like that and that's down to Mourinho.
He's an example of a **** manager, and you know he's an example of a **** manager For another example, let's look at Juande Ramos: he was having to start a season without Keane & Berbatov, coupled with Bale having a history of injury problems, so should we have got off his back considering he had this so-called "winner's mentality" that a perennial loser like Martin Jol didn't have? Or should he have been sacked for being so tactically competent he didn't actually bother having a tactical plan for at least half the opponents he faced in the Premier League and was more focused on banning ketchup in the canteen?
One of the things I like about these boards is how respectful we are when we disagree so it's disappointing to read comments about "so called" fans creeping in. Everyone on here is a fan...I wouldn't dream of waving around my regular attendance at matches as a way to dig at others so maybe we could A) continue to disagree respectfully and jokingly or ... B) set up another thread so this one don't turn into a slanging match
I'm just saying that one season better than any that we were used to before Levy is hardly a reason to say he has failed.
Depends on how true this comment from the Irish Indy is... Tottenham have blocked Parrott from conducting any media interviews during his time at the north London club, with the only time he has spoken publicly coming on his international breaks with Ireland's underage side and after his senior debut against New Zealand last November. https://www.independent.ie/sport/so...ave-more-questions-than-answers-39004456.html
Mourinho’s press conference earlier. Negative and seems more interested in praising Norwich than talking about his own team. Also can someone tell me why he keeps digging out a 18 year old so frequently and so publicly? I’d feel so disillusioned if I was TP right now.
He keeps getting asked about Parrott, so he has to say something. I suspect it's about his off-field activities and he's been told that's exactly what it is. I think he'll be on the bench again tomorrow. That's about right, for now.
Yeah but does he have to be so harsh on him? And why is he so negative in press conferences, I can’t see how he motivates players with his whole demeanour and attitude
I don't think that he's that negative about him. He's simply saying that he's not ready to start games, which is why he's not starting him. Parrott's got very little experience, even at U23 level. His press conferences have only been negative since Son got injured. It has ****ed us, but it also is rather off-putting to see him almost writing us off.
Oh boy, the Indie (the English one, not the Irish one) has a piece saying how Aurier personifies our season I'll save you all a click and copy/paste the key part of the article The Mourinho stereotype is that he prioritises the system over the individual, and consistency over fluctuation; eight out of 10 every week rather than a smattering of 10 and sixes. Aurier can manage 10 and six in the same minute. For a manager who is so determined to control the controllables, that presents a problem. There is, however, one small issue with that quote: Aurier doesn't swing from 10/10 to 6/10 in the same game, it's more accurate to say he swings from 8/10 to 4/10 in the same game - and that's the thing, a player swinging between 10/10 and 6/10 in a game averages at 8/10 as they go from great to above average, a player swinging from 8/10 to 4/10 averages out at 6/10 as they swing from very good to below average, and to be blunt far too many players are swinging between the two extremes this season, with Dele and Lucas being other obvious examples
Correct. And that has been the story of pretty much our entire squad this season. Kane and Son will have patches where they hover between 6-10 but with them gone and the likes of Lo Celso not yet fully settled in, we have a group of players hovering in the 4-8 region, which explains why patches of games look surprisingly good whilst across the 90mins, we'll see more bang average/atrocious than good.
Not sure what you watched either, now if you look at what I actually said, which throws into doubt what you actually saw, you will see that I said Spurs dominated possession as confirmed by Spurlock: - 'Tottenham - 65% possession, 642 passes, 46 long balls(7%) Wolves - 35% possession, 340 passes, 71 long balls(20%)' and we had enough chances to win which as you yourself pointed out we did. I am reserving my judgement on Jose in view of the circumsatnces (which we all know about) but some have decided they don't like/want him from day 1 and will now, it seems, view every game from that perspective almost ignoring what actually takes place on the field. Example: Aurier is ****! Actually since Jose has started to pick him on a regular basis he has become an important attacking option, yes he makes mistakes in defence but ALL defenders do that's why we see goals.
I have absolutely no doubt that Mourhino knows exactly what type of player he wants to work with, and that he already knows which of our current squad fits that criteria. Mourinho’s success at Spurs will depend upon whether or not our board backs him by getting him what he asks for ( both in terms of those players who stay and leave, and who we get in to replace those who leave). I suspect that Mourinho is utterly ruthless with whom he keeps and whom he discards. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the reason why his relationship with Chelsea and United soured, when their respective boards decided to back players rather than the manager. Imagine, if you are the boss, being forced to work with employees whom you’ve made it clear to are not good enough to fit into your working environment. I am expecting a fairly brutal cull, during the Summer. If that doesn’t happen, I’m expecting Mourhino to get the sack in the New Year.
The worst aspect of Mourinho's tenure at Utd was his signings. Some dreadful transfer business, spending a fortune in the process. What he was able to do with a limited squad was get a runners up spot in the PL and win two trophies. It tailed off badly, but he got results early on without playing winning football. I think he still has that in him - and as pointed out in my earlier post, he has matched all but the top two in points won in the PL since he arrived.
I don't disagree with you about our defence it would appear that Jose is still 'trying things out at the back' or maybe he is just sparing defenders because of the next mad clutch of games in short time faced by Spurs. It doesn't help having a week off if you then have to play 3 games in 6 days. Despite all of this we still dominated possession. Maybe Wolves were happy to concede that but it's pretty unusual for an 'inferior' team to dominate possession in any circumstances. You have to take some of the circumstances into account Brian you can't just put it all at Jose's door. What after all is he responsible for at present? Accepting the contract! yes he is culpable for that. None of the team is his choice the injuries to our two top goalscorers is not his fault. He is playing the cards he has and we don't actually know what his strategy is because like all good poker players he keeps his hand to himself and sends out messages to confuse and misguide the opposition. Fans have the luxury of ruthless decisions or risky strategys like playing Parrot for example. The manager has to work in the real world taking into account player fatigue & fitness, fixture congestion and most of all results. I expect like me you are dispirited watching Spurs lately and many of us still think we were crazy to sack Pochettino but we did and I not going to blame Jose for all of that. It would be in his DNA to have an eye on the Cup or even Cups (Yes Unlikely) but his track record is second to none and a Cup win would probably silence his critics for a while at least.
