The defensive is a complex thing. You can't just buy 2 world class CB's and 2 world class full backs and have a world class defence. You have to find the right mould, sometimes it can take years for a good partnership in defence to form. The defence has been a problem at Leeds since before Grayson. Macca had the same problem. Grayson has improved the defence recently you cannot deny that, with Lees and White playing it's definitely an improvement, but its an improvement of nothing less than shocking.
I never thought I would agree Spanish, but I want Grayson out.... NOW. If I have to watch him stand there with that gormless look when he doesnt know what to do one more time I might just stop following Leeds-thats how much it angers me. Our 1st half performance was quality, WHAT DID HE SAY TO SUCK ALL DESIRE AND CONCENTRATION OUT OF THEM!? Is he a Leeds fan? yes Does he care? yes Is he good enough? not even close
Fecking awful display from O'Dea and Bromby, trully woeful and unacceptable. Noticed McCormack's comments at the end of the game, it's clear to me the central defence issue is having an affect with the players, especially players like McCormack who burst their guts out for the club and look down the pitch to see the shambles that is our central defence. NOT ONE PLAYER AT THE CLUB WHO'S POSITION IS CENTRAL DEFENCE IS GOOD ENOUGH, LEEDS FANS ACCEPT IT. NO EXCUSES ABOUT PLAYERS NEEDING GAMES, THEIR SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Why not Connolly? He was good enough for us last season, he plays bad the first 2 games and all of a sudden he's too bad to be even considered.

Eurgh. So frustrating. The thing is, everyone today played well apart from the 2 CBs. I don't know whether our poor defence is down to a team effort this season, or just a bad defence, but today it was just individual mistakes. First goal - Poor throw from White, but then shambolic marking from O'Dea, and Bromby flails his clumsly feet towards the ball. Second goal - What the hell are you thinking? Bromby is the wrong side first off, then jumps in. There wasn't really any danger. Mackail-Smith would have been facing away from goal. Third goal - Who again? Oh yeah, Bromby. First off Aidy White does well to win the header, but no-one is there to help him. Then O'Dea doesn't do enough on the cross, and Bromby is ahead of Mackail-Smith but stands waiting for the ball to go to him. Run to it and ****ing clear it! Tom Lees isn't a right back. How many times to we need to see this. What has Connolly done...? Bromby was awful today. So, so bad. That was actually a 1/10 performance. O'Dea was shocking as well.
Don't think I have ever seen such a poor central defence display from any Leeds players, as I watched O'Dea and especially Bromby tonight. To think O'Dea wasn't the worst player on the field, due to how bad Bromby was, is absolutely shocking.
People keep saying that Grayson needs to sort the defence out. But first half, the whole team press well, at the right times. The midfield buzzed around, putting on pressure and tackles. But then it was just Bromby and O'Dea making mistakes in the second half. The manager can do **** all about that. Whilst SG does need to improve the defence and of course this season and last season our poor defence has been down to tactics as much as poor personal. But today, it was just 2 experienced players making schoolboy errors.
Hows he improved the defence, conceded 2 against palace, 1 against Bristol, 3 against man u and 3 against brighton. Garbage mate
To be fair to him, when he first took over from Macca, our defence was shocking. He brought in Naylor and Sodje and turned it round. Then the season we were promoted, we had the best defensive record in the league. Part of it's tactics, but I don't think the CBs are good enough. Naylor was a strong, no-nonense defender and alongside Sodje and then Kisnorbo, they won headers and cleared the crosses coming into the box. Obviously last season, he was past it, Kisnorbo is past it now and players like Bromby/Bruce/O'Dea are small, slow and don't deal with anything coming into the box. The 3rd goal was going straight at Bromby, he was ahead of the striker. Any decent CB would have gone to the ball and smashed it out of play. But he stands on the spot, waiting for it to come to him.
The other week I made a post asking is it time for him to go, shocking defensive show once again. Fans are screaming that Lees is not a RB and White is not a LB and that O'Dea is awful... We sign Pugh and he goes in at LM we sign Forssell reserve striker, we sign Mika reserve midfielder yet the defence is left as is game after game.
I've a lot of time for Grayson as a person and think he's done well for us. But I'm getting to the point we need someone with a bit more know how. He signed Bessone who was in the defense of the season before we signed him, same a Bruce was for Leicester. OB was doing ok in the Prem, and we've taken them all backwards. Only answer I can come up with at this time of night, is a horrible little Scottish twat...... Billy Davies, anyone?
didnt bruce come from ipswich reserves? and simons tactics and set up were perfect today in the 1st half. nullified brighton completely. not his fault the CBs make schoolboy errors all the time. he cant head/kick the ball for them
He might have done, but the season we signed him, he had been on loan at Leicester and they had conceded the least goals that season with Bruce playing almost all games
I don't think they were, Brighton just never turned up for the first half. They made us look better than we were... Nothing changed for the second half, same tactics same players but Brighton ripped through us and dominated possession. I feel we were lucky Brighton never started the game like that or we would have been dead and buried.
What we need is a proper defence coach we are not the only ones Arsenals defence is even worse than ours would you get rid of Wenger of course not stop moaning about Simon on the budget he has he is working miracles. Brighton sdefence was no better than ours or was I watching a different game to you lot
