I agree we don't have strikers ,well we have reserve ones but jose wouldn't give em game time ,but the fact are he hasn't managed to sort out the defence and that is his fault.
Son and Kane would not stop us letting in goals, we scored twice today which would be enough to win many games if we could defend, but we lost because we can`t. That`s down to personnel or tactics, I`ve seen no improvement defensively since Poch left.
When it comes to the defence I think this tweet sums it up: individual mistakes are costing us horrendously. I’m not saying Jose is blameless here but can he really stop some of the brainfarts we’ve seen from so many? I don’t think that’s down to coaching, it’s just down to stupid players ****ing up. In fairness to Jose, he’s tried so many different styles to try and counter these mistakes that I can respect the fact he’s tried - even if he’s failed. We’ve had four at the back, five at the back, one DM, no DMs, senior players, young players, makeshift defenders (Sess/ Sissoko), different keepers. Ultimately only one defender has maintained a decent level of form this season and that’s Dave Sanchez. The rest have been an utter disgrace. It's why I personally want Jose to get his own players. Things weren’t rosy for Klopp to begin with but he got his own team together and is now reaping the rewards. As I said to RCL, I don’t expect Jose to have the level of success Klopp has had but I’d at least want him to have the chance of it with his own team.
That depends how you view. Teams are looking at Tottenham and licking their lips right now. We’re limp up front (and **** at the back) so teams will attack us a lot more than they usually would. You put Son and/ or Kane in a side and the opposition’s tactics change in fear of being hit by those two. Plus with those two in the side, we have a higher chance of out scoring the opposition regardless of what we concede.
Yeah I would disagree mate. Our anger should be focused on the players, board and former manager. That’s not to say the current one is exempt from criticism nor is he doing a great job but he’s been dealt a very, very poor hand and but for Son and Kane’s injuries, likely would’ve succeeded in getting us CL footy.
The obvious issue is that, for every game, we're set up to weather the storm for the first 15-20 minutes and then hit the opponents on the counter...which makes no sense, as the team currently has - A gaping hole where a RB should be - Two options at DM: somebody who'll be puking their guts up by the 60th minute, or somebody who'll require hospitalisation by the 45th - The two players who could be expected to plonk the ball in the net when the counter reaches them being ruled out for at least another six weeks More than anything else, this is the problem: we're being set up to play in a system we don't have the personnel for, and it's patently obvious to everyone other than the bloke we're paying millions per annum to sort out and his dedicated band of cheerleaders online who won't hear a word against him, and it makes less sense than the pointless, tacked-on epilogue of Parasite that failed to excuse the film's third act being as ham-fisted as giving a pig a colonic And this is the thing about Poch: he recognised that we couldn't play the system he wanted last season due to Dier & Wanyama being broken while Dembele was falling apart and/or sold to a Chinese team, so he attempted to address this with the Air Raid tactics - which worked just enough to secure a Top 4 spot and scrape into the CL final, but that was enough...but that's still a distinct improvement on what we're currently getting, which is like trying to play the opening riff of Iron Man without a guitar but somebody did at least provide us with a harmonica
I'm going for a rum and my morphine might make me forget today's result, maybe 2 more rums and I might forget we appointed jose in the first place
We’d have likely been drinking a lot more for somehow finishing in top four after the start we had, but Kane and Son’s injuries mean we’ll be drinking sorrows
I’d say the obvious issue, in a nutshell, is most of these players are finished or not good enough. We saw it under Poch this season and we’re seeing it under Jose. Two completely different managers stylistically. The problem, unfortunately, is that Poch allowed it to get like this with the help of Levy and Jose is facing the brunt of it.
The thing is that Poch didn't allow it to get this way * He expected Rose and Wanyama to leave in the summer...and then decided that they weren't * He was expecting Eriksen to leave last summer, not in January * He was expecting Toby to leave eighteen months ago * He expected Dembele to leave eighteen months ago, not twelve months ago * He expected Janssen and Nkoudou to leave eighteen months ago, not six months ago The issue was that his plan was to move on various players of his original team so he could build a new one, but various members of his original team didn't want to budge - and while you can certainly blame him for not putting his foot down and telling certain players on that list that they were leaving by the end of the window and that was the end of it (which he certainly should have done with Rose and Wanyama last summer) he was undone as much by a combination of a lack of interest in Toby and Eriksen or injuries to Dembele and Janssen as he was by Rose and Wanyama torpedoing their moves, and while a certain amount of that was out of his hands the lack of a backup plan, for example why we weren't looking at player exchanges for Toby or Eriksen, certainly did not help matters
I sgree with most of this but imho I see no reason as to why we would have beaten Chelsea and Wolves with Son as we were comprehensively beaten with him and Kane by Chelsea before xmss and only beat wolves in the final seconds with both last time out. Off the top of my head he was out thought in the first half v ; Villa, WON Southampton (in the cup), DREW Boro -(away in the cup), DREW Olympiakos, WON Norwich (away) DREW Wolves (away) WON In the second half v West Ham (last 20 mins) WON Bournemouth (last 20 mins) WON Boro (home in cup...last 20 mins) WON Wolves (home) LOST Southampton (away fa cup) DREW Norwich (home) WON And for the whole game v: Man Utd LOST Chelsea (away) LOST Chelsea (home) LOST Southampton away LOST Leipzig LOST I make that 17 matches...to be tactically out done 17 times in 22 games is poor. I have deliberately left the City, Bayern and Liverpool games out of this as they are light years ahead of us. But Maureen's record is poor. Played 23 Won 11 Olympiakos, Boro, Southampton, Bournemouth, West Ham, Brighton, Norwich, Wolves, Villa, Man City, Burnley. Only the Burnley game was comfortable and only the Burnley and City game were by more than one goal. Drew 4 Watford, Southampton, Norwich, Boro Lost 8 Man Utd (a), Bayern (a), Chelsea (a), Southampton (a), liverpool (h), Leipzig (h) Chelsea (a), Wolves (h), We did not look like winning any of these after the hour mark. In 23 games (16 PL, 4 fa cup, 3 CL) we have... Kept 3 clean sheets (all in the league) Failed to score 5 times (1 CL & 4 PL) Conceded 20 times (13 PL, 4 FA & 3 CL) Conceded 2 or more 11 times (8 PL, 1 FA & 2 CL) Conceded 33 ( 20 PL 7 FA & 6 CL) Scored 40 (29 PL, 7 FA & 5CL) Best winning run 3 Best unbeaten run 6 Worst losing run 3 None of this looks good on Maureen. Only the win against City is surprising. We have failed to turn up in every other big game apart from the lsst 30 minutes or so v Liverpool. Maureen continues to get sn easy ride imho.
He became too soft and lost his "Mr Nice Guy but with a ruthless streak" persona, as he just became "Mr Nice Guy". He also grew too loyal to these players to the point that when he actually put his foot down, he ended up lifting his foot back up. Rumours were he vetoed a number of signings last year, strengthened by the comments from Levy when he said there was money available to spend. Putting Rose in the XI for 9 of the first 10 league games after transfer listing him showed a real weakness on his part too. Poor planning from him and Levy has left us where we currently are. Jose is now getting the brunt of it, he hasn't been perfect by any means don't get me wrong but the man needs to get his own squad together, judging him with these bunch of wasters is pointless. Pochettino failed with them, Jose is failing with them. Saddest thing is Jose was actually likely achieve our target of fourth before he lost both Kane and Son, even if it wasn't pretty, getting over the line was all that mattered but without those two we haven't got a chance.
Mourinho gets an easy ride? Oh come on. I'm not saying I like the guy but fans have had it in for him the moment he walked through Hotspur Way. Ultimately he clawed us back to within 1 point of Chelsea in 4th before losing Son. Of course we lost/ drew games with both Son and Kane in the side whilst being outplayed in others but we won enough to get us back into contention after Poch left us in 14th and about 11 or 12 points adrift. Since Son joined Kane in the treatment room, our record is L and L in the Prem, and L in the Champions League and unfortunately I can't see it changing too much because our defence are no longer reliable enough to ensure we don't lose games and our midfield outside of Lo Celso is terrible, partly due to ability, partly due to fitness. I look at the current squad right now with Son and Kane out and only Lo Celso and Dave Sanchez (whilst Stevie is doing his part) are players who I think are legitimately good enough to play for this football club. It's a shambles and whilst Jose hasn't been perfect by any means, he's fighting a losing battle until he gets his own players in.
On the plus side, I can definitely say that we're not the most reactionary fandom out there A cursory look at the Doctor Who fans losing their collective **** on Twitter right now makes that obvious...
His record is poor...that's clear. Really poor performances and losses to the worst Chelsea team (twice) and United team in a generation shows this. 2 goals or more conceded 11 times in 23 games is a joke. With Kane and Son available we were out played tactically; 1. in the last 20 minutes v West Ham...nearly blew a 3 nil lead to a manager on the verge of the sack. 2. In the last 20 mins v Bournemouth...nearly blowing a 2 nil lead to one of the most over rated managers in my lifetime. 3. In the first half v Olympiakos ... subbed Dier after 30 minutes to change it round...the same wardrobe that he continues to play. 4.Man Utd's OGS out did him ffs. 5.. Wolves... for big chunks of the away game. 6. Bayern Munich where 3-1 flattered us. 7. Chelsea at home...out thought by a bloke who was nearly done by Eddie ****ing Howe yesterday The only game he got right for 90 minutes was the Burnley one. Son was then Suspended snd Kane was injured as he returned. So 8 games Won 5 Lost 3 But could have draw 3 of the wins but for a brilliant last second tackle by Vertonghen v Bournemouth, some poor West Ham finishing and an amazing last minute header by Vertonghen v wolves. None of the losses were in doubt . Maureen no longer reacts to in game situations like he once did. Apart from the Olympiakos and Burnley games he never reacted tactically to what the opposition did in those games. Like I said...imho he gets an easy ride.
We've been tactically outclassed all season, both with Pochettino and Mourinho. We hired Mourinho to get results and he was getting enough of those prior to Son joining Kane in the treatment room. It's also easy to say wins could've been draws if such and such happened. Though we can also say if we scored our two golden chances against Pool we'd have won, or if Lucas finished his one on one vs Watford we'd have won. Prior to losing Son, only City and Pool had picked up more points in the league than Spurs since Jose arrived. Pre-Jose: 14th, 11 points off 4th. Pre-Son injury; 5th, 1 point off 4th. I don't even particularly like the bloke nor have I been overly impressed but he's had far from an easy ride here, both in terms of fan judgement and the problems with the squad. I'm definitely not gonna call for his head though after less than four months in charge, one transfer window and losing our two best players to injury. The guy needs his own squad of players, we gave Pochettino five and a half years and roughly ten or eleven transfer windows, we can at least afford Jose a few before judging the guy with primarily a past it squad riddled with injuries.
Maybe I am just scarred from watching car crashes slowly unfolding in terms of our managerial appointments which were allowed to stagger on like a **** actor in a bad 1930s western... Ossie - 18 months Gerry Francis - 3 years Gross - 1 year Bloke in a coat - 2 and a half years Hoddle - 2 and a half years Ramos - 1 year AVB - 18 months The only relief to Santini, Pleat and Dim were they only lasted 1 transfer window each. I will happily admit I am wrong if it turns out that way and I honestly hope I am wrong but tbh I had exactly the same view about AVB ... a stupid appointment which was never going to work. My biggest fear is that we are going to spend anoth season with the wrong manager simply cos Levy will look bad if he sacks another one of his appointments. He has made 3 good managerial choices imo...Jol, Redknapp and Pochettino. But he has made 7 bad ones too...Hoddle, Pleat, Santini, Ramos, AVB, Sherwood and (imo) Jose. A 30% success rate is pretty piss poor so he has to face serious questions if Jose is a failure. I am going on Wednesday and will get behind the team and him cos like you I want him to succeed... I just have very serious doubts. Anyhow ... think I have bored you all ****less so will let it go...for now Good debate
