Happy to report that journeys to Birmingham and Bristol completed by train and car last week and over weekend.
This corona virus might spell trouble for the festival but the approach seems extremely inconsistent. 200k plus folk from all over the world pass through Heathrow everyday, and that's indoors. Compare that with 20K mostly British, Irish and a handful of French meeting outdoors on a hill in Gloucester for 4 days. I know where I'd rather be.
Yep and from all corners of the globe . You can see the direction of travel though. The Paris 1/2 marathon which was supposed to have taken place today was cancelled yesterday. My guess would be that anyone who was travelling from overseas and most of the French competitors will have already arrived and will instead of spending the day running outside will use the metro and go sightseeing. The French have also ordered a few race meetings to take place behind closed doors. Meanwhile Charles De Gaulle and Eurostar are open for business. It smacks of being seen to do something. It's a bit like the sporting embargoes we've had previously. No sport allowed but carry on doing business just as before.
Yes, only the professionals will be allowed in. How thick are they? is it not possible for professionals to have/catch corona virus? Will they not leave the track after racing and mix with loads of "non professionals". So for every one "professional" who might have it, that's a lot of people who might catch it and pass it on
You just have to look at Italy to see what the UK will look like this time next week. A week ago Italy had about the same cases as here (35). They now have over 1000, 20 dead, 100 in intensive care and hospitals already at breaking point.
Steve-"glass half empty"-o Wasn't it you who said there would be corpses piled up after Brexit as there wouldn't be any body bags? I was reading an article today about how many people die in road traffic accidents each year, or how many die from alcohol-related illness. Or from smoking-related illness. No "battle plans" or "crisis" meetings looking at controlling access to cars, booze or ***s - the whole Corona thing is a fecking joke. As I said earlier, its just a flu. We'll be fine. (But just to be on the safe side I am cancelling my business trip to Toulouse next week. Couldn't be arsed with it anyway)
Meanwhile back in the real world, Simon Claisse is stating the festival might start on good to soft ground: "We're not saying there will be no rain but it wouldn't surprise me if we had good to soft in the ground description towards the end of the coming week based on the current forecast. That would be the first time since back in October." Perfect - bring it on
I ve predicted the festival starting on soft ground. Weather Tuesday to Thursday looking predominantly dry.
what utter nonsense. It’s not out of control in the vast majority of countries. It’s just media spin and gullible people falling for hysteria.
If you say so. I hope you don't catch it. I hope nobody on here, or their friends and relatives, catch it.
In the same way I hope no one catches any variants of the flu, a cold or any other virus or bacterial infection.
im afraid that this virus is not the flu otherwise I wouldn’t be bothered about it. apart from the fact that there is no cure it has a kill rate of about 20 times greater than the flu Yes it is not a big deal over here at the moment but it is coming and it will be impossible to now stop. italy has just recorded nearly 700 NEW cases today alone. Cheltenham might just get away with it I hope but I would think it must be 50/50 now.
14000 deaths in the US alone from Flu in the same period. The big difference is that they know more about flu. I'm not saying we shouldn't be worried because we should be with any illness/virus/infection etc... But it is being blown way out of proportion by the media
Yes there is no vaccination for Coronavirus as yet. Those at risk would be the elderly, very young or those having treatment for say cancer. The standard of healthcare in the U.K is higher than Italy that's one point to make. Also the other point is that there have been around 13000 people tested and there are only 30 odd cases in the whole of the U.K. Thats not even 0.5% of those tested! I am sure the majority of these people have been in minimal contact with other people. The advice given by the NHS is very strict about what you should do which is basically stay at home! I can't believe some people think the Cheltenham festival is in danger...don't see it at all I m afraid.
