Well done to Manchester City. A fantastic achievement to get a win against tbe greatest team in CL history. And crédit to the referee for not being intimidated by Real' s reputation in the game or the shenanigans of oñe Señor Ramos.

Leganes should be allowed to replace him. They could hardly stand in his bloody way!

La Liga strugglers Leganes say "enormous damage" has been caused by the Spanish Football Federation's rejection of their request to replace striker Martin Braithwaite.
It goes against the integrity of the competition and the right of all clubs to compete in equal conditions and has caused enormous and serious damage to the club.

    Talk about screwed over.

Hopefully there are 5 British clubs in the EL at close of play tonight. There could well be an all EPL tie in the last, or an English v Scottish clash. Emotionally, I would love Celtic to win the EL. From a old- timers pov, Benfica. For English football, Arsenal. We'll probably end up with the nearest to a CL final with Manchester United against Internazionale if they progress and avoid each other.

Footnote: Celtic outthought yet again. A club with the experience garnered over the years playing European football should be doing better than they are. Arsenal could well be going out with them if they are not careful.

PS: United will reach the final of this tournament!!!! What a shocking season they are having!!!

Unbelievable finish to the Arsenal game:

114 mins - Aubameyang overhead kick - Arsenal think they've won it
120 mins - El-Arabi scores for Olympiakos, putting them ahead on away goals
120 +2 mins - Aubameyang misses a relative sitter, last kick of the game

Not an entirely surprising outcome as Olympiakos are seasoned European campaigners. Well done to them.

It's genuinely impressive how bad Arsenal have managed to be given that PEA finally solved their striker issue. Expecting David Luiz to stabilize, well, anything might have been an error.

Arsenal have a Russian part owner [who I can't remember the name of - Kroenke?] who has been calling disaster for the lack of proper investment in their team for almost a decade and I am so pleased they haven't listened to him. The decline of Arsenal has been a bit of a sideshow entertainment in football. <laugh>

If only they'd go the while hog and get themselves relegated. That would be a side-splitter.

The Russian owner was Alisher Usmanov, who sold his stake in 2018...Kroenke is the American toupee'd owner of today. To North Americans, he's best-known as the guy who moved the Rams of the NFL back to Los Angeles, where no one really cares about them.

There was something of a reason why Arsenal didn't invest: they had a massive debt from the stadium, similar to the way that Spurs were reticent to spend while new WHL was under construction. But one of the consistent elements with high-spending teams is that they tend to chase fancy baubles: Arsenal has spent on their defense, but nowhere near as much as they've spent on their attack, and the result is that they score a fair few but also Callum Chambers has a boatload of starts. That's not great! They've spent on younger players in defense of late, but there will still be some lag time before they're actually contributors, if they're good enough to contribute.

I've always thought the dream result was Forfar 5, East Fife 4? But we could call in our Scottish football correspondent @AberdeenSaint to clear it up.

Didn't they achieve that result a few seasons back, or was it the wrong way round?

It's never happened in the order of the joke but it has in the reverse (Forfar 5 East Fife 4) in 1963
