Coventry City v Sunderland – Skybet League One Last time out Sunderland drew with Fleetwood and Coventry drew with Rotherham Sunderland can thank Max Power for rescuing a point from Tuesday’s encounter with Fleetwood, his 97th minute goal maintaining the gap on leaders Rotherham & Coventry to just three points. Oh yeah and Sunderland apparently won the “World Cup” The Black Cats extended their unbeaten run to 5 matches. Denver Hume went off after suffering a bloody nose from a sliding challenge, and Declan John could be given his chance if Hume is not ready for Sunday’s game. The Sky Blues have won 5 of their last 6 games and have gone 8 games unbeaten to climb up to 6th place in League One. Phil Parkinson: “I’m pleased for the lads who came on and made a contribution tonight because it’s frustrating for lads being out of the team. Lafferty, Duncan and Antoine came on and I thought they gave us a lift of energy.” “Will's fine, he's doing a lot of extra training, which is important, and waiting for his opportunity. I still feel that he's got a role to play.” Mark Robins: “We don’t have the belief yet, once the belief comes into them, the sky is the limit and that’s the biggest thing to come out of tonight.” “We were a slither away from winning the game, those are the things, that little bit of extra belief or ruthlessness, that wins you the game and that’s what champions are made of.” “We’ll take the point and move on, another game coming on Sunday against Sunderland is another great one to look forward to.” Prutton predicts: 2-1 Match Appointments: Referee: MICHAEL SALISBURY Assistant Referees: Peter Gooch and Bhupinder Gill Fourth Official: Peter Wright Team Line ups Sunderland: McLaughlin, O’Nien, Flanagan, Ozturk, Willis, Hume, Power, Dobson, Gooch, Maguire, Wyke. Subs: Burge, McLaughlin, Scowen, Lynch, Watmore, Semenyo, Lafferty. Injured: Embleton, Wright Coventry City: Marosi, Rose, McFadzean, Hyam, Dabo, Kelly, Walsh, McCallum, Blamou, O’Hare, Godden. Subs: Allen, Wilson, Pask, Giles, Bakayoko, Westbrooke, Shipley. Injured: Jones, Bartlett, Allassani, Jobello Betting Odds: Home 7/5 Away 19/10 Draw 21/10 My two pence: Another important game against one of the promotion challengers and one that we could do with winning. Coventry are on a good run and this will be a tough away game. My guess is a 1-1 draw. Ha’way the Lads
Great thread mate. This is a great chance to jab a fork in the face of Coventry ... ... I hope our fantastic following is singing all the way home.
Good OP After the draw, we need to win this 6 pointer.. Parky will probably pick the same side? Nervous about this as dropping 2 points on tuesday ratchets this game up several notches
Walking out if the away end at St Andrews isn't a pleasant experience ... ... I hope it all goes off peacefully but I'm not too hopeful tbh.
I think this is a game where we may come unstuck. Coventry are a very good side and it would be no disgrace to lose to them. There's a long way to go yet and all of the top 5 teams will lose more games than anyone is anticipating. 2-1.
Big game. Scruffy win would do but a draw is not a disaster. Hope there’s no bother but have my doubts.
I was looking at our last 5 games against them earlier and their 5-4 win and thought it would be nice to return the same
So are we to be fair. Coventry only had two attempts on target against Rotherham at home. I think it'll be a tight game but feel quite confident we'll do well.
They are a good side and I think it will be us and them in the top 2 (not sure in what order tho, and frankly I couldn't give a ****). I'll go for 1-2 with Maguire and Lafferty getting the winner from the bench.
We've got to be at it from the off and much more ruthless/clinical. I don't know if we will be, but if we are that would mean a very, very tight win. Never been to Coventry, or St Andrews. Can't wait, they sound lovely.
Iv'e gone for a win but will be happy with a draw, despite the last gasp equaliser and the elation in seeing justice done, Tuesday was still two points dropped in a game we should have won. Not sure our left side is anywhere near as strong as our right atm, and could be tweaked, but PP is not one for tweaking and has been proved right so far, whatever, I am sure Coventry will know they have been in a game come the final whistle. OaU
Enjoy my fine fellow. Bring the points back and stay away from bother............. well for the first 5 mins anyway.
Thoughts on what parky will do with the selection? I think Semenyo might come in and if Hume isn't fit John will come in.
