Job done. Rangers had the ball in the net 3 times, two ruled out for offside though, leaving Arfield's opener as the decider.
No change to the gaps, respectively 10, 18 and 17 for points, GD and goals scored.

Attendance : 48,302 - tickets sold for yesterday, but many could not attend today.

18/02/2020 : A stern test for Rangers, considering the drop in form since the 'winter break'.
Let us hope that everything clicks together on Thursday and we take a decent lead into the 2nd leg, which is scheduled for 27th February.

From being totally outclassed and overrun, Rangers recovered to win a match that seemed destined to be a defeat. Well done lads, especially our goalscorers, Aribo and Hagi.

20/02/2020 : This is probably being unfair to him, but I have long regarded the St Johnstone Manager Tommy Wright as depicting the stereotypical 'Angry Scotsman' (despite his being born in Belfast !) ... this is just based on his looks btw, not his character. In any event, I have to hope that Mr Wright will have reason to be angry on Sunday, as he sees Rangers win the match.

I followed this on Sportsound and my Twitter feed. Another two points dropped by Rangers, this time after taking the lead having gone behind. What is galling about this is that we seemed to be dominating the game up to going ahead, only to ease off and let St Johnstone back into the game. 'Angry Man' Tommy Wright will be a Happy Man after this result.

Update. The gaps are now 12, 20 and 19 for points, GD and goals scored, plus 5 for games won. That last gap explains the others. Critically, the Opposition now have a 3 point cushion against our game in hand and our two head to head matches.

Rangers vs Leverkusen
Rangers beat Leverkusen in the 1998/99 UEFA Cup second round (1-1 h, 2-1 a). Those 1998/99 UEFA Cup matches with Rangers are Leverkusen's only previous games against a Scottish club, while Rangers have not faced a German club in UEFA competition since playing Stuttgart twice in the 2009/10 Champions League group stage (1-1 a, 0-2 h). That defeat at Ibrox ended a five-match winning run, and eight-game unbeaten streak, at home to German visitors.
Leverkusen will return to Glasgow in the round of 16, having played perhaps their most famous game in Scotland's largest city. They took on Real Madrid in the 2002 UEFA Champions League final at Hampden Park, losing 2-1.

First encounter for these clubs. Olympiacos eliminated Premier League side Arsenal in the last round. Wolves have never played a Greek team.

Another one of 'those games', where team A dominates but team B nicks it. However, this time it was due to player error (again) on our part. These factors created another one of those 'odd results' for Hamilton, which they get from time to time. I do not begrudge Hamilton their victory; that they won tonight was due to our own shortcomings.

Rangers were too tentative against a much better side. There was rarely enough pressure from our team and this enabled our opponents to stroll through most of this game tonight.
