Sounds like a very wise bloke - I’m similar, though a bit concerned as I’ll be on a plane for the best part of 12 hours next Tuesday so I’m thinking of taking a mask!
Me too! I’ve always wanted to see one in the wild, so, if this stops the obscene trade in them, I’m in favour. I really hope we as the human race can educate these bloody people that this type of stuff is totally wrong!
I had my first ever flu jab, last November. I am generally (hope I am not tempting fate here) flu resistant only ever having suffered from it twice in the past 40+ years, so I guess certain strains are my nemesis. This was the first time I was offered the flu jab, and it was only offered on the basis that I am my wife’s primary carer. She is my concern about any flu, and now this corona virus, simply because she comes under the heading of being vulnerable, owing to her lung cancer. Like your dad, we don’t socialise or go out too often (although I work full time), so we try to minimise contact with ill people, wherever possible. Our sons know not to visit us if they have any health concerns that might be contagious, and I do my best not to contaminate her if I catch a cold, etc. Fingers crossed for all of us.
I’m worried about the fact I’m getting married in April, and flying to Mauritius on honeymoon. The Mauritian government have been turning planes from Italy away because of Coronavirus.
I'm worried about my May Italy holiday - going south to Positano, Capri and Amalfi, but by then who knows what is happening.
I am in China, about 500km from Wuhan, I lived in Wuhan for five years, none of the people I know in Wuhan has contracted this virus. 18 people in the city where I now live have contracted this virus, most have now recovered. Nobody I know anywhere in China has contracted this virus, yes it can be deadly for some elderly people that have ongoing medical conditions but it has killed around 2% of the people that have contracted it. Common flu is more of a threat to your health. Apologies for the long reply.
Apparently it's a 0.5% chance for the average adult with no health issue, much higher with elderly etc which bring it's up. It does make me suspicious that that doctor who found the virus and was silenced and then spoke out against the government over it happened to die from it. I haven't looked into the background but he looked like he should be one of the people with 1/200 chance. Seems like a big coincidence, that.
There have been a few medical professionals here that have contracted the virus and to my knowledge at least three senior doctors. In the early days of this virus when it was not known what they were up against those first responders were subjected to contamination because of the measures in place today, such as full-face masks were not at that time being used. Here in this city we have had three weeks of isolation at home, nobody was allowed outside except one person from each house could go food shopping once every two days. Buses were stopped, cars could not be used to further stop the spread. Now those restrictions have been lifted here and some businesses are beginning to open. What does not surprise me though is, while most people are wearing masks, it is not unusual now to see people out and about without one.
yes that is what happened on our flight over sitting in front of us was an Asian man sniffing and fanning himself all the way to Singapore. 12 hrs 20 minutes. Just as we were getting off guess who sneezed........ later we find out that is a typical way the virus starts. We consider ourselves lucky! My daughter is joining us next week and have advised her to mask herself the whole journey.
Congratulations Laces! I’m not one to talk (failed twice) but very glad for you mate. I’m sure you’ll be fine - both with the missus and the virus!
Just watched “The Irishman” on Netflix. What a cracking piece of “cinema”. 2 of my favourite actors (Pacino and De Niro), directed by Martin Scorsese ..... whats there not to love? Wasn’t sure if this should go in “Arts and Literature” or here, so I chose here. If you liked “The Godfather” you should watch this. I loved it.
This is an extraordinary story about Duffy... https://www.theguardian.com/music/2...y-says-she-was-raped-drugged-and-held-captive
https://www.itv.com/news/2020-02-25...still-unknown-as-familys-face-agonising-wait/ Article about the shocking drug death rate in Scotland...apparently even higher than America. Figures may be even higher because there is an 8 month delay in getting forensic information. I suppose it isn't surprising that drug use would be high in a region with a high level of alcoholism.
Well that explains an awful lot. What an absolute tragedy for her, but it sounds like she is coming out of the darkness now, thank heavens. One of the great voices was silenced far too early, if I’m reading the timing correctly.
