Come on. Really? She has been racially discriminated against. A tribunal found in her favour. Do you think she went to work hoping she would be singled out for her race so she could bring a case against her employers?

Your last comment ‘nice work if you can get it’ is pathetic at best and inherently racist at worst. You are victim blaming here and it’s not a nice thing.

She played the racist card and the judge fell for it!

Do you honestly believe that putting up with the alleged insults for no more than 3 months warrants a £400,000 payout?

I don't, but she will (no doubt) be laughing all of the way to the bank!!

It sounds as though she then went on 'the sick' before her probationary period was even completed.

p.s. You appear to be turning into a regular 'bleeding heart', who regularly plays the same 'racist' card!! :emoticon-0114-dull:

Is there something you're not telling us?

Who knows the truth of this. She may have well been bullied and racially abused or she may have played the race card and be laughing her socks off. None of us on here know what really happened though.

I don’t agree that racism has a part in society even though it happens. And tell me what racist card I’m playing here. I put up a news item recently about an aboriginal kid who has been bullied at school due to his medical problems, not necessarily due to his skin colour. Is that a ‘bleeding heart’ or just someone showing a bit of compassion?
All I see you doing here is automatically assuming that the compensation she got was unwarranted.
Like you, I have no idea what she went through at DWP. But seeing as it was investigated and taken to a tribunal where the incidents were found in her favour I’d think that there was some substance in what she was alleging.
No doubt laughing all the way to the bank? Give your head a shake.

My point is that whatever she had to put up with lasted no more than three months, which makes a £400,000 payout ridiculous in the extreme!

Your tendency to throw the word 'racist' around can be seen in the words you used in your first reply on this thread, when you posted "Your last comment ‘nice work if you can get it’ is pathetic at best and inherently racist at worst".

    Imho, pathetic!

I wonder when you'll start criticising one of UK's biggest racists (Diane Abbott), or her proven racist/criminal son but I won't hold my breath!

Mind you, I think that most would have mental health 'issues' with her as their mother!

I live in Australia mate so tend not to take much notice of British politics any more. I know my mam doesn’t have any time for her though. In my opinion from what I have read about her she appears to lead a bit of a charmed life. She doesn’t present well when interviewed is one thing I’ve noticed. I had no idea she had a son, let alone one with mental health issues or racist ideologies.

    Not neccesarily.

If she'd been traumatised enough that she couldn't go back to work the courts would have looked at the potential length of employment. She's 50 ish now and could potentially have worked for another 20 years. That's 20k per annum, not sure what sort of salary she would have been on and the income potential through promotions over her working career.

42k was for mental trauma so that's 340-360k for loss of earnings, 17-18 years.

Just for interests sake, if all the allegations were true, which the court obviously believed to be, how much do you think she should have received?

    My honest view is zilch!

She's now 59 so could have been no older than 56 when she decided to skive off because she thought someone had called her a few nasty names.

She should be put down, not rewarded for being such a workshy wimp.

Far too many people, these days, are always looking to find someone to blame (and profit) from their own inabilities to cope with the day to day problems of life.

I actually agree with this in principal. Unfortunately it's been going on since the beginning of time (or at least religion).

At the end of the day though, the powers that be found in her favour. In todays world of political correctness we're going to see more and more of this unfortunately. Bit like violent criminals getting off on "diminished responsibilty" due to mental health/drug reasons. I actually wonder how long it will be until someone successfully mounts a defense for DUI as they were pissed and therefore "temporarily unaware of the consequences" ie. diminished responsibility.

Corbyn went on a motorcycle holiday with her in Europe, a good while back, I believe she was thinner then.

These are the aims of her charity.

The Diane Abbott Foundation undertakes research into the causes, and manifestations of, racial disparity in the United Kingdom. It brings together the work of the London Schools and the Black Child and Black Women Mean Business to provide training, mentorship, counselling and advocacy for black children in the school system and black business women.

Sounds racist to me BUT only whites can be racist, so it can't be. :emoticon-0145-shake

Also, do you think that Brits should be allowed to sue the Australian Government for allowing use of the term "Whinging Poms"?

There must be ooo's who have been so badly traumatised that they were never able to recover!

Rem9inds me of an old joke.

How can you tell when a British Airways flight has landed in Sydney?

The whining continues well after the engines have been turned off.

    Indeed!

Where should I submit a claim for the permanent trauma/damage to my mental health I've suffered as a result of such racism being, not only, tolerated but (at times) being encouraged by Australian Government ministers?

By my reckoning I must be due at least 1M Aussie Dollars.

The payout seems excessive to me - my wife was beaten black and blue completely unprovoked on a night out and still suffers now (it was 8 years ago) - She got £2k compensation for a fractured skull.

This is not me condoning the OP as I know little to nothing about the story other than what I've read and seen in the news. Just an opinion when trying to weigh up what the compensation is for.

Think this is a difficult one. Mental health certainly seems to be a problem in society at the moment. The problem is that society is becoming polarised between those who are determined to see offence in everything and those who think that this is just whining. As with most things, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

So you think discrimination based on race, religion or sexuality is OK then, and her employer should be able to get away with it with no consequences?

If you'd said that 400k was too much, but she should have got a years salary instead, fair enough, but letting her employer completely get away with racism just isn't acceptable.
