Just as a matter of interest when we play Wayne Rooney FC we will be the first club to play 5000 league games would have been Notts County but they got relegated

In 1639, at Much Hoole, 10 miles southwest of Preston, Jeremiah Horrocks was the first person to predict and observe the transit of Venus (when Venus is visible as a black dot on the face of the sun). The Jeremiah Horrocks Observatory in Preston commemorates him, as do a plaque and stained-glass window in Much Hoole church.
Horrocks died in 1641 aged only 23. Had he lived, he would now be as famous as Isaac Newton.
The last transit of Venus was in 2012. If you missed it, don't worry: there will be another in 2117.

Do you happen to know if that'll be on a Tuesday? Tuesday's darts night, so I don't want to get all excited and then not be able to see it.

Friday 10th to Saturday 11th December apparently. With luck, City will be at home so you might get a good view from the North Stand.

Hull City’s 5000th senior game in all competitions will be when we play Leeds next week.

Interesting: PNE seem to be making moves that could result in a "partnership" (= buy out) of Cork City. Nice steady stream of young talent for PNE anytime a McLoughlin type comes along. Maybe Hull City should get in on the act and buy out Dundalk - any gems that could be harvested would easily pay back the investment many folds over - hell we would have a satellite team that would get European football every year, albeit in the preliminary rounds.

Here is your up to the minute weather report from Preston. It is bright and Sunny but very windy. It's a two pairs of socks day but you probably won't need the tights as well. Sunglasses wouldn't go amiss at present.

They've signed a few players from Ireland recently, Alan Browne, Sean Maguire and Daryl Horgan (who's now somewhere in Scotland I think). It was when Dundalk qualified for the Europa League knock out stages.

Hull boss Grant McCann is ready to welcome another trio of players back.

Jordy De Wijs, Reece Burke and Jon Toral are all expected to be fit.

This comes a week after the injury-hit McCann got Matthew Pennington, Ryan Tafazolli and Kevin Stewart back in action for last Friday's 4-4 thriller with Swansea City.

But, on top of long-term absentees Eric Lichaj and Herbie Kane, Martin Samuelsen (calf) and Keane Lewis-Potter (hamstring) remain sidelined, while Marcus Maddison is doubtful following illness.

    Match facts
    • Preston North End and Hull City have already met at Deepdale this season, sharing a 2-2 League Cup second round draw in August before the Lilywhites progressed 5-4 on penalties.
    • Hull, who beat North End 4-0 in this season's first league meeting in November, are looking to complete their first league double over Preston since the 2010-11 campaign.
    • Preston's defeat against Millwall last time out ended an unbeaten run of six Championship games.
    • Since beating Sheffield Wednesday on New Year's Day, Hull have not won in seven Championship games.
    • Preston's Tom Barkhuizen has scored four goals in his last five Championship games, as many as he had in his previous 21.

Tough game this one, I would be happy with a point, so let's hope having a few players back from injury can make a difference.
