The thing that I keep thinking is that although we’ve gone through a bad run of results we’ve still mostly been playing very well. We played well for the majority of the Spurs game and the Liverpool game. The Burnley game I think is a little unfair to say we played badly. I think Burnley just coped with the conditions slightly better. But you could still see in patches we were trying to play good football. We have still been producing chances, we’ve hit the woodwork I think 4 times in those 3 games, but have not been as efficient with our chances as we have been. And also there have been mistakes leading to a few goals in the oppositions favour again. Not to mention VAR has not been our friend in recent weeks... That said, we’ve played Liverpool and Spurs...and Burnley in terrible conditions. As long as the team aren’t feeling too down about these results, and can keep doing what they’ve been doing, I’m confident we’ll start getting positive results again soon.
Trouble is 27 years of our previous encounter in the premier keeps coming into my mind. We need from somewhere 3 more wins. Then maybe we can breath a bit easier. 3.0 Saints is my prediction.
Another positive is that we aren't Norwich, Watford, West Ham, Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton, Palace or Newcastle. Any one of those teams would happily swap our points total so far. ALL of those in bold have to perform better than us in the next 13 games for us to drop into the zone. ALL of them, not one having a run, but ALL of them.
Positive is good. Well done no7, in these days of gloom and doom a rare beacon of light. We have specific threads on this board for people to go to when feeling negative. They're called the Politics Thread (where we are being led to oblivion by a tin pot dictator) and The Environment Thread (where we are being led to oblivion by climate change while choking on plastic). This thread is a breath of fresh air (if there is such a thing nowadays) Still think we'll lose though.
Exactly. They didn't get their points away at teams like Chelsea and Leicester. In fact our GD verses Leicester is -8 and so it theirs EDIT: And we have scored more goals against Leicester than they have (they have scored none, we have scored 2)
Lol. In the words of those well known philosophers Chumbawamba "I get knocked down, but I get up again" Another well known philosopher Ronan Keating said "Life is a rollercoaster, you just have to ride it" However, he also said: "You say it best, when you say nothing at all"......
win this and any threat of relegation is put to bed I'd say. lose and suddenly that west ham fixture looks a bit hairy!
I say one game at a time, worry about it if we lose to Villa and West Ham. Oh and by the way, we would still be 4 points ahead of them if that happened. Oh and still ahead of Villa (definitely as they don't play next week) and probably still ahead of Bournemouth and Brighton. So even if that happened, we are still in a good place and outside the bottom three with our destiny in our hands. To quote another well known philosopher, Bobby McFerrin: "Don't Worry, Be Happy"
I can be a bit of a negative person on here when it comes to Saints but I like to think I’m fairly level headed and realistic most of the time too. This forum however is bipolar lol. We beat a couple of teams and we’re on for Europe. We lose to Liverpool, Spurs in the cup and Burnley in terrible weather and we’re right back to thinking we’ll lose every game and are on the cusp of relegation.
The way I see it is that our general play is of a lower half of the top ten team but we leak goals too easily. We will win enough to avoid relegation easily in my view but our lack of depth in defence is the achilles heel and stopping us from being where we deserve to be.

the trouble is this confidence thing. so we played well for much of liverpool game and really well for most of the spurs games but then not so great agst Burnley and the bottom line is we have lost 3 games on the trot so the pressure is on and we are at home which will turn sour if we go one nil down! i think it will be a much tougher game that that great win just before xmas at theirs which started that fabulous run which is still amazing but we need a home win so badly.
