Even the Maths and you know me, I don’t do Maths...but even the maths suggests that we are in the better position Leipzig score and we need 2 Madrid score and Pool need 3 I suppose them being at Klanfield sways it their way
Pass map time please log in to view this image You know, I think I can see why our midfield seemed to be non-existent...
Winks playing on his own in the middle, again. If everyone's knackered, then put Skipp in. He does fine whenever he's used.
You're right, but it does seem odd. The logic is that the goal less you would require acknowledges the away goals rule.
How do you proceed in the CL,PL and FA Cup without goalscorers? What do you think Daniel? "Stop counting your money!!!!!"
Easy, by not conceding goals and hope to nick it with a set piece ...so we're boned on the first part
It can never apply against you if you lose 1-0 at home. If you draw on aggregate you must have scored at least one away goal yourself....
God that was a repeat of the Ajax home leg last season. And similarly we have escaped big time with only a 1-0 loss. With the current injury plague + Jose team selections, I cannot see a similar escape in the away leg.
There's an obvious problem that became apparent against The Sheikh Mansour Team and Taurine FC Leipzig: we were set up to weather an early storm and hit them on the counter...but the issue is that we simply don't have the personnel to be set up like that, as to be set up like that we'd need a DM to shoulder some of the burden when soaking up pressure and a right back who might consider actually being anywhere near the right-hand side of our defence at some point during matches As a result both games required us to rely on Hugo to provide some heroics at one end and a moment's inspiration at the other - which happened in the former match, was very much absent in the latter The issue is that not only were we poorly set up, we're also performed poorly in a poorly set up team - and that's the key difference, as we were poorly set up against Wolves and Villa but performed so well that it negated our poor setup
I have to say I disagree with this. The absence of Kane/Son and the way we started both games make it easy to compare the two, but the period of play after Tanguy and Lamela came on saw us raise our performance to a level we couldn't come close to in that 1st leg against Ajax. We simply couldn't lay a glove on them that night, and it was only the woodwork and some serious digging in that kept the scoreline as low as it was. Last night, there were periods where Leipzig looked genuinely worried - the 'tactical' fouls that seem to be the hallmark of teams owned by morally bankrupt businesses attest to this. Against Ajax, we managed just the one shot on target. Last night there were 5 - two of which (Bergwijn and Lo Celso) produced excellent saves from their keeper, while another chance (Lucas) really should have been a goal. I think the explanation is simply that the XI we finished the game with last night is noticeably better than the XI we finished up with against Ajax. This is especially true of the midfield. Against Ajax, the creative burden fell on a broken Wanyama, a semi-fit Sissoko and a totally disinterested Eriksen. Last night, the Tanguy-Winks-Lo Celso trio operated on a different level for the time it was together on the pitch. Those 3 will create openings - of that I am confident. The big question is how many openings do our current forwards need in order to score? It is telling that Llorente barely scored a goal for us last season - he got 1 in the league and 2 in the CL. But his presence on the pitch seemed key to keeping Ajax in sight in the 1st leg, and then turning the tables on them in the 2nd (his introduction at HT in 'Dam was the turning point of that match).
We are so wasteful upfront it is unbelievable Every game Truth is even with Kane in the side we are extremely wasteful for chance conversion quite baffling
I don't think that's true Spurlock how many did City have against us 19? and score none, how many did we have 4 or 5? and scored 2 How many did Villa have and Southampton? many more than us and we won both games and that's just the last 3 games. If the last 20 minutes against Leipzig are a guide their early dominance of the ball was as much to do with our tactics as theirs.
