To shed some light on WHY no-one knows this...

I was in the local supermarché the other day, and noticed a big stand of things from Britain. Jam and whatnot, you know, the stuff the Europeans love to eat while thinking "I could be Hugh Grant right now..." and all over it were little posters saying "Producto Ingles" (English Product). Now, this might not be so bad if it didn't have the Union Jack all over it? Is that the English flag? No. Are you damaging peoples geography through laziness? Yes. **** sake!

Can't believe this thread is still going. Lol.

You have to admit that the U.K is a difficult concept to a lot of people - even if you're British. Countries within countries and all that. It's no wonder there is a lot of confusion. To most outsiders, Scotland and Wales are just regions of Britain, and in some ways they are right. The EU in particular thinks that way. We consider ourselves very different from the Catalan situation in Spain but the world doesn't. Fact is the Catalans are very similar. They are part of Spain but are culturally different, have their own language and their own regional government. Ring any bells? Yet we consider them Spanish don't we, even though perhaps we shouldn't. But they are Spanish citizens, just as we are British citizens.

    Funny old world.

There are a lot of similarities, but I think the main difference is when asking someone abroad I think people from Wales/N.Ireland/Scotland are very unlikely to answer "British" (maybe that's just me?) whereas Catalan people don't seem to have a problem saying they're Spanish, as long as you don't ask if they're from Madrid!

Like I say, it's not a British thing, what bugs me is lots of people on the continent think England is Britain or vice versa. Still, less people that know about us, quieter the Gower is. Result!

It gets more confusing when you consider that Wales , England, Scotland or Northern Ireland are not in fact countries in their own right, they only become a country when taken as a whole as in the United Kingdom ;)

As I mentioned, all he's doing is conforming to the general non-uk viewpoint which is "England is the UK".

Off topic; in my view a tomato will always be a veg! Dont look or taste anything like fruit!!!

even more off topic - off to Ibiza next Friday - whats the weather out there like now!? Going to be in san antonio, with about 500 other people, on an organised jet skiing holiday :emoticon-0111-blush

Hope the sea will be generally carm!!!, with a few nice waves to jump!

At the moment it's about 28 degrees and the sea is like a lake, mate. Storm coming in tomorrow apparently but they pass quick, forecast is good all of next week! PM me if you've got any questions on Ibiza, I might be able to help.

I'm living in Canada at the moment. Where I work there are quite a few ex-pats. The term "English" never gets used, it's always "British". I think it's because "English" is just a language to them, rather than a nationality. I've heard our HR manager saying "We have people from the USA, Canada, Britain and Scotland working here", like Scotland isn't part of Britain.

I always just show them this video :)
