    Totally un-football related, however.

Just heard this piece of off the cuff news, that wasnt even headlines.

I dont know whether this story is sh*t scary to think about...or the coroner is a total moron!

    Dont hold in your farts...!!!

It does happen. There are a number of stories.

Incredibly, incredibly rare though. I think there have been about 10 supposed cases in the last 500 years.

    I heard of a bloke who spontaneously combusted . . . . . . . . but he was wearing a shellsuit while masturbating.

I think Spontaneous human combustion is due to rare cases of extreme static electricity, there's a survivors account about how she saw electric blue flashes on her feet so I guess this is the most likely explanation.

Its a mixture of things. the body has an electric current sometimes excessive also you have to think the body also produces methane gas. this makes the human body very flammable in extremely rare case.

a little test you can do is place a piece of paper over the palm of your hand and hold a lighter above the top of the paper and you will find the the burning sensation in your hand unbearable before the paper has a chance to start burning. thats how flammable the human body is

Mate that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

The "burning sensation" is the nerve receptors in the skin feeling the heat and sending pain signals to the brain. It has nothing to do with your skin catching fire. If you were able to fight through the pain you would find that the paper caught fire WELL before the skin ever did.

Skin, and human tissue (excluding fat), is inherently non-flammable. In situations where a body part appears to be on fire, it's usually just the flammable substance which caused the flames in the first place - i.e. a layer of petrol on the skin. It's one of the reasons why SHC is such a baffling mystery. The human body should not really be able to just burst into flames and continue burning. After all, it is 50-70% water.

If you want a real test, go and find a piece of raw chicken with the skin still on it. Put a lighter to it and see how long you have to wait before the skin actually catches fire.

I've read about this before, an "accelerant" isn't necessary to start a slow burn to fabric. The victim most likely had a cardiac arrest or a stroke to have fallen and may have died as a result. All it takes is a fragment or ember from the fire to start the process.

It's apparently similar to how a candle works, the fabric would start to burn first, then the skin (the wick). When the fat melts it fuels a slow burn process which smoulders at high temperature over 24 hours or more. It's not like roaring flames or anything but it's enough to charr bones and everything else due to long term heat exposure. They even experimented on a dead pig and the theory was proven.

Makes me hungry just talking about it...

yes the nerves act as a danger center to tell you to get your hand out the way... look at the rest of the post about electric currents and methane... the burning of the hand is more of a hint towards the fragility of the human body and how easy it would be for things like this to happen given the "perfect circumstance"

Who do you reckon is most likely to spontaneously combust out of the Toon squad?

Defo Shola... He'd be sitting there watching TV, all on fire an that.

But he won't be that bothered, too much effort to call someone or put the fire out. He's just a laid back kinda guy.

An Autopsy should have revealed that though. That's the odd thing. Unless the body is a pile of ash, such causes are often detectable.

They usually are literally charred ramains/ash. The pig test was pretty accurate, it's probably on youtube somewhere.

all of them except colo... toon xmas party he whips out a balloon rubs his hair creating a static thunderstorm of biblical proportions frying the rest of the squad. colo would be protected by his hair and in turn it would all be burned off, making him useless as a defender as his hair is the source of his power... this would all result in us suffering multiple relegations until the squad can be rebuilt.

lets just hope nobody gives him a balloon anytime soon eh

Aye i remember that, usually thebody is all but gone, just ash but the legs often remain due to there being less fat deposits there, so no wick action

Then again with the amount of big fat fatties that there are about nowadays the legs will go on a lot of them too, just a row of toes left

Shola would sit there and think, 'You don't see that very often' and he slowly burns away. Sammy gets the hat collection.
