Zlatan Ibrahimovic has just scored in the Milan derby tonight - don't really like him that much but you've got to hand it to him - at 38 still knocking them in at the top level. How often do we say about strikers here that their legs have gone at about 30+. Players like him and Ronaldo and Messi prove that age is all in the mind.

I agree with you that it is very sad. I went with my son-in-law to a Watford away game, and we had a lad of about 16 stood in front of us. His constant stream of quite foul language was rather embarrassing to both of us to say the least. That however is rather different to racist abuse, although I have heard that as well in Aylesbury. Quite how you change the mindset of some, who are passing this on to kids I don't really know, but it is very unhealthy for a country.

Did you feel like telling him to stop? That's what us adults are supposed to do.

I did actually and it had no effect whatsoever. The look of aggression on his face stopped me trying it a second time.

Man City banned from the Champions league for 2 seasons!

Well Pep will probably leave if that ban sticks ..

Well they won't be able to defend it either way ATM although sure an appeal will take place.

This is what all football fans dread. We all know their lawyers will win through and it will be commuted to a maximum of a year, so the risk was worth taking for the rewards gained. For the ‘sentence’ to have any meaning they (UEFA) must send and uphold a clear message that cheating by anyone will not be accepted, and more pertinently for the money-orientated, it won’t be worth it.

But they won’t have the cajones to stand up to Man City’s legal team.

Thankfully Man City has the same rights as every other club to be able to appeal and use the best legal team it can find. Maybe the charges will not stand up when fully scrutinised.

... of course if you have more money in this day and age you have more clout... .and those with the money generally win through...

....sadly ethics and morals are in decline

I'm sure football's governing bodies can afford the best possible lawyers, hopefully Man City's case will be judged on its merits.

Having sufficient finance has always been the same, it is no different now compared to anytime in the past.

Democracy and the capitalist free market is the best and fairest possible outcome. The alternative would be those favoured, or not, by the 'regime' or 'party' members.

Wasn’t sure what the ellipsis was for. Now I know - our dear little Richard Head was making political comments. Again. <doh> :emoticon-0118-yawn:

This just goes to show that you cannot exclude politics from threads like this. It is inevitable that an unreformed rabid free marketeer like yourself would leap to the defence of the Sheikhs - just as inevitable that an old 'leftie' such as myself would want to hang them by the balls. Surely you can see that sport, and sports clubs, are not just business entities SH. The fact is that the Champions League is a product of Uefa and they have the right to decide who takes part in it - if City want to keep on taking revenues from it then they have to abide by the rules made by Uefa - it is as simple as that. They are not just being charged with failure to comply with fair play regulations - but with falsifying accounts and with failure to cooperate with investigations. This is not the first time City have been faced with charges of this kind, and it is not the first time they have appealed to an independent arbitrator - I have to add that their appeal was unsuccessfull last time, and will be again because the case against them looks rock solid. The football World does not need the Man City's of this World as much as their inflated egoes assume. How many players have Man City actually produced ? Compare this to the amount of players currently in the Champions League who were products of the Ajax youth academy - so football needs more clubs like Ajax and fewer like Man City.
A short political aside here - democracy and the capitalist free market are contradictions to each other not supplementary as you imply.

I'm simply saying the club has a right to defend itself. Uefa and Fifa have had more than their fair share of scandals, bribery etc.
If Man City fail with their appeal then they will have to accept the punishment. However I hope the charges will be thrown out.
