Good for the Lads' future? https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...ry-back-new-ps18million-football-hubs-1848993 "The three new £18m hubs are at Downhill, Washington and Ford, where ten full-size artificial pitches have been created, as well as new changing facilities, gyms, cafes, club houses and social and educational areas."
Quite impressed that a canny lump of cash was from the Premier league. Like you say good news though.
Aye, I raised an eyebrow at that too. It came on the local news and I thought it was something to do with FPP at first! Dreams of investment near the stadium again.
Yes it looks like Sunderland Council are getting their act together and building good links with others to get things done.
It should mean that fewer games are played on the waterlogged Southern Area playing fields, which can only be a good thing if you are trying to develop basic skills in younger players.
The bairn uses the one at Downhill quite often, says its brilliant. Think he said its got a bar and teles there so they can watch the football and stuff , sounds class
The original facilities were really good when they went in 20 odd years ago but they sadly let them go to rack and ruin. I’ve watched the new facility getting built and it is state of the art. I hope they’ve factored in the funding for maintenance so kids have the use of the facilities for decades to come.
