The keepers who came after Sprake were good keepers, Harvey, Lukic, Martyn, Robinson etc, and they were a joy to watch.

Jennings and Stepney were good keepers, I believe Stepney was still playing top flight football till his 40th.

Gordon Banks was another keeper ahead of his time, pity he lost an eye in an accident, I reckon he'd have gone on till well close to his 40th.

Lev Yashin was ahead of his time, positioning, saves, distribution, and apparently saved over 150 penalties during his career.

David Harvey was an outstanding keeper - even in his second spell when he was in his late 30’s.

Never seemed to make a mistake.

cooper does seem to have his disaster moments at pressure times. He got a calamity coops rep for mistakes a few years back, but personally I think he's been good for a few years now. All centre halves make mistakes and like keepers they are often costly. Jansson was is a very god player at this level... but he made a bunch of errors post-christmas last year, yet fans seemed to have a blind spot to them.

I'm just messing LL. I'm well aware of the talents of Yashin and Banks. Any football fan discussing the best ever keepers would surely start at those two.

the antithesis of sprake... who was capable of great saves but a disaster in waiting. Harvey was unspectacular but safe... just what you needed in that team.

Martyn the best keeper we've had in my opinion.

Yep. I'm on board with that. It just seems with Cooper that it tends to happen at the worst possible time. Like the Sheff Utd game last season. Like Derby at home in the play offs (he shares that one with Kiko). If we ever got to a cup final it would be Cooper that would make his only mistake of the season in that game.

Like I say, he has won me over.

Best keeper I have seen live was pre-ponytail David Seaman! In the late 80's and early 90's he just never seemed to have to dive for anything. He just seemed to know where the ball would end up and be there to catch the fecker!

Yeh, won me over too and I agree... don't think the timing is a coincidence. I think he has an emotional hijack in him. Stick him berardi and kiko in the same team in a critical game and you'd be sh*tting yourself all match as to which of them was going to press the self destruct button... first

Like most, I've just seen the grainy footage... LL has seen them in the flesh. That's what you get when you hide in the changing rooms with your autograph book.
