I don't actually think Winks got any better, he just had little to do when Lo Celso came on as the Argentine began controlling the game from midfield. That wasn't the Winks who put in a monster of a performance against City and exactly why I say those performances are too few and far between. Gio on the other hand is just oozing class at the moment, if he continues this form and avoids any more injuries, I think he might be my player of the season, it's not a huge honour this year if I'm being honest as there's little competition but the guy is looking so good in that central midfield role, dare I say Modric-esque at times.
I'd still like to see more of Gio further up the pitch. With Eriksen gone and Kane injured, the lack of anything remotely resembling a footballing brain in the final third is blatant. Today just highlighted how poor our current incumbents are at reading the game and making decisions. Gedson looks like a real prospect too. Wouldn't mind seeing him tried in a two with Winks and Gio pushed up with the AMs.
Not for me, I think he's excelling far too well at CM and if he's not there I don't have faith in the current CMs to cope. Tanguy is too fragile at the moment whilst Winks isn't good enough at getting the ball forward into dangerous places. Gedson looks like he'll be an upgrade on Sissoko but with much more technique, so he'll still need a creative player alongside him. Going forward when everyone is fit, a midfield three of Tanguy, Gio and Gedson excites me, supplying the likes of Son, Kane and Bergwijn up front. Tasty.
It could be my recent scheme of not watching the domestic games live is having an "rcl" effect on the fortunes of the team, rather than the machinations of the "special one" .
Spot on. The more that he has of the ball, the better we'll be. Playing him further forward is a waste.
The thing with GLC is that nobody actually plays him in the Eriksen role - Betis played him basically how we play Alli, as somebody making late runs into the box to score - Argentina play him much like we play Lamela, as the hard-pressing ****ehouse high up the pitch - Poch played him more in a Dembele role, bringing the ball forwards from deep as it's damn near impossible to get the ball off him - Steptonho plays him more like Modric, playing from deep with a little bit of grit to him if that's what's needed If we're going to play a midfield three going forward, realistically GLC needs to be in the Dembele role while Ndombele needs to be in the Modric role - but that requires them to both be fully fit at the same time, which has rarely been the case this season
Blame me Maggie. My name is Dennis. I was known as Dennis the Menace at school.....and I really was!!!!! COYS!
Like I said earlier in the day...I believe our team selection was influenced by our upcoming CL fixture Dier won’t be playing on Wednesday
