I’m waiting now gor all the trade deals to flood in, and the huge trading benefits of global Britain to start to generate huge growth. Plus the massive enhancement of our status in the world as a free and independent nation. Checkpoint in maybe 2-3 years time. I’ll be in touch.

Pound is lower against both dollar and euro compared to referendum in mid 2016. It’s gone up and down but mainly down.

euro was about 1.27 before referendum, now 1.20
    Dollar was about 1.37 it’s now 1.30

I know there’s a lot of posts made about short term changes in the economy but the real judgement on the economic effects of Brexit will cover a long period, the key dates being:

    June 2016 when we voted

December 2019 when the GE stopped further delay and it was 100% definite we were leaving

December 2020 when the transition ends

    December 2024 / 2029 - 5 & 10 years after the GE

It will be a few years before the true trends emerge. And currency exchange rates won’t be the main ones to look at. I’ll be more interested in GDP growth and unemployment staying low, and earnings growth.

But this isn't about us. It's not whether the pound is climbing or falling. The Eurozone is in crisis. Productivity has stagnated and they are heading into recession, some would say they have been for a couple of years.
I posted GDP growth figures from the World Bank a while back and we were being dragged down with France and Germany.
It's not the sunshine and snowdrops institution that it was being painted as and before too long, especially when the recession bites, it will collapse.
Hopefully then it will revert to the Common Market it should have been.
It is madness to think that Greece can have the same currency as Germany but when you have officials who aren't answerable to the people you don't always get what is good for the people.

It’s us I’m concerned about. We were doing quite well so I’m rather keen we continue to do so.

But you weren't on the right side, 2020. The referendum showed that.

But we weren't. As I said, the GDP growth figures released by the World Bank showed that we weren't going anywhere but many (Soubry, Lammy, Starmer, Thornberry, Clarke, Osborne +) either didn't see it or, more likely, because they were doing OK, they didn't care about everyone else.
The EU experiment failed years ago but no one has the power to pull the plug. A few rogue politicians are circling the wagons in Brussels and watching Europe crumble.

I can't see the die hards ever accept it but you were wrong.

    You were wrong

Just like those "The end of the world is Nigh" guys from years ago.

I’m hearing reports that poor girl in Syria has had her whole world crash around her. Where’s the compassion these days? There was a time we’d have welcomed her back and given her a nice house to live in.

    disgusting.
