The ideal film for Valentine's. Was it banned??? For the time it was made, may have been a mix of the blood and guts, the graphic torture and the crude explanation of Like A Virgin.
Yeah, starts off one way, goes another, and I didn't see the ending coming. I watched it after Ex Machina, which is another great film.
Was it this thread that someone asked what was a good viewing on Amazon? If so... Firefly is now available on Prime. Excellent Sci-Fi show. One of the best. The show the film Serenity was based on. Classic!
Used to watch a sci-fi show years ago (can't for the life of me remember what it was called) about a crew of mixed aliens and one human. The ship was a living entity and the driver (pilot) was linked to it mentally. Great show, anyone remember it?
Farscape American Astronaut stranded in space on a fugitive ship Brilliant series never saw how it ended
Speaking of Amazon Prime this will drop on March 6th... From the writer of Gomorrah it looks like a cracker. Will also be available on the usual outlets. See Sucky for details.
Machina is another decent flick, although tbh in that one I could see the twist coming a mile off. The whole 'next generation of AI' genre is a big deal at the moment although it's a pretty mixed bag. I hated that one with Scarlett Johansson using loads of her brain. Can't even remember what it is called. And that one called 'self/less' or thereabouts. Had huge potential but screwed it up by sacrificing depth for adrenaline. One film 100% worth seeing, and like Upgrade it's another one made on a shoestring budget, is 'Moon'. Fecking superb. Also 'Her' with Joaquin Phoenix is the dog's.
Yeah it's a decent effort. What I like about it is that at no point does it pretend to be all deep and philosophical/introspective, even though it very much could go down that path. It skims along topics like consciousness and identity, instead focusing its main energies into being a gripping action/thriller. Pisses me off when films pretend to be all deep and ponderous but fail to do more than scratch the surface. 'Replicas' was precisely that. A brainless take on multiple profound talking points that was just about kept afloat by Keanu Reeves and his best worried face. Upgrade does what it says on the tin. And considering it cost short of $5m to make, the action sequences piss all over many mega-money Hollywood efforts.
Oh stop it ya tadger. Movie snobbery at its worst. Rocky, First blood, Cliffhanger, Copland, Creed are all very decent movies. Some of the Rocky sequels are to. He was also in Gaurdians of the galaxy 2.
