Our midfield

In the not so distant future, if we were to play a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-5-1

Our midfield would consist of Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Tiote, Cabaye and Gutierrez.

How many teams have a better set of midfielders than that?

Manure, City, Chelsea, Liverpool with Gerrard back maybe?

Who else?

Other teams have got awesome mids, but not a full set like we do. Spurs have Bale and Modric and VDV, but after that their players aren't as good as some of the players we have.

Arsenal have Gervinho, Arshavin and Wallcott, good wingers, but only one good CM currently in Arteta.

Is debatable, but certainly outside the top 6 we have the best midfield, surely?

 

Tottenham and Arsenal have better midfields than us. Basically 'the top six' have a better midfield. After that nobody comes close, except Everton, but ours is better than their's.

 

I made a bet with myself you'd include the word "orgasmic" in here somewhere. Damn.


To answer your question;

Man City's midfield is definitely better.
Man for man, I honestly dont think Man U's is much better, dont rate Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson or Cleverly higher than Tiote and Cabaye, but their wingers are better. They completely outperform us though due to a higher standard of coaching/training/fitness etc
Liverpool's midfield I also dont really like, Adam isn't that good and Henderson is ****e whenever I watch him. Questions over how good Gerrard still is and Marveaux looks every bit the player Downing is. They do have more strength in depth though.
Chelsea's is better, but they only play a 3 man midfield so difficult to compare.
Spurs's is better as well, in terms of quality and depth. Great squad.
Arsenal have good players still, Song, Wilshere, Arteta, Frimpong, but I think it isnt any better than ours.
I dont rate Villa's.
Everton's is probably worse as well having lost Arteta.



I probably sound incredibly biased but that's just the way I see it. I dont necessarily think we're better than any of those sides, just comparing midfields man-for-man.


EDIT: I realise it sounds like we're a top 4 club with how I've put it above, I just think our midfield is that good, whereas the top 6 all have better strikers/defences.

 

In my opinion Tottenham possibly have the best midfield in the league, if they played a 4-4-1-1 there midfield would be

Lennon-------Modric-------Parker-------Bale

---------------------VDV-------------------

I genuinely think that, that is as good as the big boys, except Man City.

 

I think Lennon, as well as Walcott, is over rated, Ashley Young is miles better than both, Parker isn't as good as Cabaye.

Bale, VDV and Modric put Spurs ahead of us.

 

You can't compare Parker to Cabaye, they are different players. Tiote and Parker are the two you should compare and I don't think there is any difference between the two. Modric is better than Cabaye for now, but we may have to review that opinion in May!

For me, Tottenham will finish 4th if they don't get too many injuries. They have a great starting eleven and incredibly good strength in depth. There acquisitions of Friedel, Parker and Adebayor, for me, were brilliant.

 

Maybe we got the wrong Corkney, we should have gone for 'arry.

 

Think this we must wait and see on this. I'd like him and HBA to start playing well regularly before we get our hopes up over either.

 

Parker is better than Tiote.

Our midfield is good. But Jonas is poor, considering we talk about dropping him for Obertan and Obertan was nowhere near the Man United team and no other top teams wanted him. Ben Arfa has had injury problems and is incredibly unproven in this League. The same with Marveaux. Tiote is good and Cabaye is as well, but other than that it has potential but is yet unproven.

 

Not biased Smudger, just seeing it through B&W eyes.

I think we've got a midflield that can more than match any teams.

 

That was also intended as a dig at Downing as I think he's overrated. Just going off what I've seen but Marveaux looks a very tidy player.

 

Parkers creative play is better, Tiote is stronger, better tackler and has better ball control.

You can't compare them really. Even though they play the same position, they've both got different qualities.

I'd rather have Tiote, as many teams have enough creativity but lack a strong holding mid. Teams are crying out for Tiote's and Yaya Toure's

 

Lennon - Better than Obertan, Haven't seen a lot of Marveaux so I'll let someone else decide that..
Modric - Better than Tiote/Cabaye
Parker - I'd probably say better than Tiote/Cabaye, for now.
Bale - Although he's massively overrated he's still better than Jonas.
VDV - Better than HBA, at least until HBA can prove he will be consistently great in the PL.



But the point remains that outside of the 'top six' (maybe not even including Arsenal) we have a better midfield than most teams.

 

City and Tottenham have the best midfields, also Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and Bin Dippers have a better midfield than us and arguably more. Marvaeux hasn't started a PL game yet and Ben Arfa has started only 3. Cabaye has looked good so far but it is still early days. While we all love Jonas I'm not sure many of the big sides would take him as he doesn't score/create enough. Tiote would get into most sides if he can rediscover last years form

 

Do people really think Parker is better than Tiote and Cabaye?

 

Parker is ten times better tackler than Tiote. Tiote is stronger but his ball control isn't as good. Parker and Tiote both do the little turns in their own half, one of them loses the ball much more than the other whilst doing it and i don't mean Parker.

Like Tash said earlier it's difficult to compare Parker/Tiote, but Parker/Cabaye I would say Parker, simply because last year he was one of the best midfielders in the league, and until Cabaye has played maybe half a season in this league it's difficult to compare.

It sounds like I'm being massively ignorant and not realising how good Cabaye was in Ligue 1, but it's a step up to the PL.

 

Parker on his day is absolutely amazing! Tiote last season was better than Parker, but Tiote has started sloppily this season. Cabaye is better than Parker though, but not quite at the level of Modric.

 

Parker is not as good as Cabaye or Tiote IMO.
