Some don't see it like that at all though, some see it as lies, spin and empty promises. Not everyone sees it as you do, I am not advocating a witch hunt, merely stating my thoughts and pointing out what Methven had said. If folk are happy to be called a disease and basically labelled as uneducated, happy days and each to their own agenda.

Just re watched episodes 3 and 4 of STID.

Bain, Grayson and Bally all reiterated at a talk in about confidence of the players.

By that i mean that the fans do play a part. Watching STID all you hear is the chants of "You're not fit to wear the shirt" and Grayson out". If you were hearing that every week would it affect you? I reckon it would affect about 95% of people. Some fans have an expectation based upon our history and most recently 10 consecutive years in the Premier League but the reality is we struggled for most of those 10 years. I think that's what Methven meant with the Sunderland disease comments. There's been something inherently wrong with our club for a long time and it's going to take a long term approach to fix it. I'm certain that a large number of our fans won't have the patience for that as we seem to have attracted a fair few of the "I want it now" brigade similar to those up the road.

Yeah, I know some don't see it like that. He wasn't calling the fans a disease though was he? He was saying a Sunderland 'disease' exists. As @Ozzymac says, that could have been a comment about the expectation levels or any number of other things. What he said is just an example of them not being very good at running the club. It seems to me that people who are offended by it are choosing to be offended because they want to be offended by him. It was just a stupid comment from a frustrated bloke.
People can choose to see conspiracy and spin and lies but it won't do them or the club any good. Or they can choose to be more level-headed about it and recognise that it's a couple of blokes a bit out of their depth, cut them a little slack, and give them space to run the club until they can sell it.

Excellent point mate, this is a major reason Ashley is lumbered with Newcastle ....

... SJP has major structural problems and they don't even own the place so can't sell and move. These things obviously have a huge impact and, as I'm told, the reason none of the so called buyers have been serious. For anyone to consider buying a club, who don't own the ground they play on, they'd have to know the state of what is a very old stadium that's had various lumps added on.

I was called a liar for suggesting FPP have had studies done on the SOL, AOL, area around the ground, etc.

Of course they would ffs ....

... you wouldn't buy a 2 bed terraced house without having a survey done.

    I'd didn't choose to be offended ...

... I just thought the use of the word 'desease' was idiotic especially at a time when there was friction between the club and supporters.

Yes, I can certainly see Man City supporters voting for that ....

... perhaps they could avoid wasting the 'renovation funds' on millionaire players who they pay hundreds of thousands to play in the reserves.

Charlie Methven is our equivalant of Boris Johnson. An over priveleged Elitist at first telling the great unwashed what they want to hear (populism). When the going got tough his contempt for those very same people who thought he was on their side slipped out. It is all our fault, disease, uneducated etc.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I just said. He found it tough and said some ill-advised things. What's the point in getting offended by it?

The point is that people in positions like this are responsible for what they say.

Paying customers are entitled to be offended especially as he'll stroll off with their money.

I entirely agree that he is responsible for he what he says. Hence my statement that his comments were ill-advised. It's not good PR. If people want to be offended by it, then that's entirely up to them. However, as I said in my previous post, being offended by it doesn't achieve anything for anyone. Why not just take it for what it is? A stupid comment.

It's not just a stupid comment imo ...

... it's indicative of how he sees the supporters.

    Not good enough.

We do have a sizeable amount of bellends though, just look at RTG and Twitter.
However these are not the fans we see in stadiums.

It was a poor choice of words from a bloke who supposedly makes his money from PR. I wasn’t offended either fwiw but expect better from a guy in his position.

Offended is a word with a broad range ...

... I wasn't frothing at the mouth, just thought it was poor, unnecessary and quite childish.
