According to reports by the Daily Mail and Mirror and which was picked up in The Bleacher Report, Arsenal FC had by email, advised shareholders that thee proposed meeting where they would have an opportunity to quiz the club's manager was unlikely to take place and that further updates would be posted on the shareholder website. Arsene had previously met with supporters at the close of each season and following a stormy exchange in 2009, it was decided that these meetings would in future be held at the start of the season. The format of the occasion was also changed when supporters were also required to submit their questions in advance of the Q&A session. The reports go on to say that Arsene would be at the AGM due to be held next month at which Silent Stan or Silencio as I prefer to christen him, would also be present and for the first time, take questions from the floor. Other expected areas of discussion are the rise in salaries which is reportedly huge. It probably is not a bad idea that the meeting has been postponed since it would give Arsene an opportunity to concentrate on the team's forthcoming matches in the EPL and CL in particular which would hopefully make for a more convivial occasion when the meeting is finally called. While having to submit questions ahead of the meeting may make for an orderly conduct of the event, much as in Question Time, one hopes that discussion may be open to the floor once Arsene responds to these questions and indeed too that the questions themselves would not be censored. Arsene obviously isn't having an easy time of it and it would be good if Silencio will finally break his silence in not only expressing his support for Arsene which he or Gazidis quite markedly failed to do at the last meeting and then tell everyone what his plans for the club are. Given that there will be much the supporters would wish to know, I wonder how much really would be revealed in due course or would it be more of the company line. Anyone here going?
I wonder why the AGM was shifted to the beginning of the season, no one would have predicted the start of the season of the season we are having...... They probably thought we would be off to a flyer as we normally do and the collapse of the previous season would have been forgotten.... But alas.... I agree the situation is far too volatile at this moment, and I can imagine there would be a lot of angry shareholders demanding answers..... So best it is shelved to a time when we can string 2-3 wins together, when hopefully we are not hovering above the relegation zone!
Well my friend I think the meetings in both 2008 and 2009 were quite contentious from what I've read which is hardly surprising considering how our season ended in both years. And that is just it you see, the way we get so far but not far enough. Supporters are naturally eager to inquire as to how this has come about. Wrt the AGM next month, I think all would hope that we take at least 9 points from the next 5 EPL games. 10 would make for a comfortable get-together. Anything less than 9 and I don't think Arsene will have an easy time.
Don't really see the point in these meetings if we are not allowed to criticise and they can be put off whenever the team are doing badly. The board really don't seem to value the fans do they? Other than taking money off us obviously.
Couldn't have put it better Robin. I guess an AGM is mandatory and if they didn't have the Q&A they could lay themselves open to worse PR
Obviously bollocks. The board don't take a penny off you - you give it in an act of free will. Clearly you aren't happy about the fact that you give your money to people such as this, so why do you keep doing it? Are you ill? If you touch a fire and get burnt, do you keep repeating the act in the hope that the next time it won't hurt?
Look mate don't be so irritable. I am just expressing my dissatisfaction at the way the board take the fans for granted. I think it would be better if club took the interests of its supporters in to account like the German system. At the moment I feel the club are abusing the loyalty of their fan base and I am not happy about that, especially as we are a major component of what arsenal are. Criticism of the club should be allowed when you think they are doing something wrong.
