Just watched the ten minute highlights from yesterdays match and, in my opinion, there's no way that Charlie was offside and the goal should have stood. He was offside when he scored, but not when the pass was made. me and the guys sat near me, all thought it was a wrong decision at the time.
I watched the replay a few times back and forth to have a look at that and I think he was on. It was a tough call though because it was one of them where he was moving backwards then made a late move forward just as it was passed, these league one refs haven't got a clue so anything remotely difficult is beyond them.
When I saw the thread title I thought you meant the absolute tap in from Gooch's shot against the post .... ... I'd have scored that during my Sunday League days FFS.
With your wrong foot when the ball has seemingly died. I’ve watched that a few times. You can see he expects the ball to run much quicker and is through the shot far too early. He should’ve scored yes absolutely but it was like watching a cricketer play a ball that’s left the bowlers hand at 85mph and arrived at the bat 15mph slower!
Charlie is a bit of an enigma, he holds the ball up well (usually) and he can give the defenders a hard time, he gets kicked from pillar to post with little protection from the match officials. He scored two good goals against Wycombe and Tranmere then missed that rebound from Gooch's shot as if he's never played football before. Can't even say it's a confidence thing for him as he can look good then awful in a matter of seconds. Like I say an enigma.
Being perfectly honest I was directly in line and as I posted over the road saw the flag go up immediately, but couldn’t say whether he was on or off. I can say without fear of contradiction though that the Lino let him take the kick 5 yards ahead and I’m pretty sure he let their man go on 88 minutes when he looked offside to me
There was one where he got closed down at the last second, well defended, where he looked at least a yard offside probably more. Gets harder every game to believe that we aren't being screwed by the refs for one reason or another.
The standard of the officials in this league is very very poor , I sit in the East Stand and the Linesman always looked for guidance even for straightforward decisions . The Referee must have known he had a bad game when BOTH sets of supporters are singing you don’t know what you’re doing and you’re not fit to referee , is the SOL a testing ground for crap referees as we seldom seem to have any decent one’s.
I was right in line sitting in the east stand direct in line with the 18 yard box At first I thought wyke was off side Having rewind and looked several times I’m still not sure However that 88 minute incident he was off side by possible even 3 yards and the linesman was right next to him In that stupid incident I think the linesman was to close to the player an couldn’t judge the line properly
The bloke next to me said he was probably offside, cos Wyke is not quick enough to get there otherwise.... it was a marginal decision from what I saw, the linesman on the west side liked to flutter his flag, the east side linesman was fairly static for most of the game.
Thing is you don't mind as much when it seems to be the same for both sides in a game - I'm yet to see one of those this season. The Tranmere game was disgraceful - the ref whistling every throw in we had then letting them steal over 20 yards at one point (ball went out 5 yards before the centre circle and he took the throw from our half) Off sides, the Bolton and Fleetwood games where we got an apology from the match officials - that's 4 points it cost us woud have us in 4th place, 2 points outside of the autmatic spots with a game in hand. (and 2 on Posh) It has almost literally been one rule for the opposition (dive booking for Charlie Wyke but not for their number 2 which was bfar more blatant at the other end in the same game - can;t remember who against mind!) I thought I was just being paranoid - particularly about Tranmere - until @Smug in Boots posted exactly what I was thinking aftre the match. Seems we're the "big club" and they are determined to make an example of us
Charlie wyke will NEVER get a result from a ref that is fact, they don't like him or us. after watching the replay his toe was off side.
I wish he would realise that and stay on his feet instead. For a big lad he goes to ground too easily and unless he's cleaned out there's rarely any reward.
