It looks like they do each round of counting manually. Maybe they think it's quicker than inputting every voters preferences.

That's basic Irish maths.

 

The Irish and most of the world know our political system inside out because like it or lump it we are a big deal on the International stage. I know the USA political system inside out because they’re the big boys in the world.

Why would anybody in England be expected to know the Irish political system? Do you know the political system of Bulgaria, Croatia and Luxembourg?

 

Yes. All three use proportional representation.

In fact it seems it's just the " big deals" on the world stage that don't have true democracy.
