In all honesty mate I don’t know why either. The only thing would that FPP put caveats on the loan/investment or whatever it’s called. Why they would do that is beyond me. Maybe it was to buy players and we just didn’t
Exactly this. Hence why he was so frugal in January. He has to pay it back if he spent it and then sold to someone else, so until he knows what's going on, he's neither spending it or paying it back. If he decides to stick it out, he's still tied in to his agreement with FPP. If he sells to a third party, he pays it all back. If FPP came on board, they'd either settle it or use it as part of the acquisition. But having the cash buffer gives him options he wouldn't have on his own.
They can only veto the buyer if the loan is not able to be paid back. In fact the new owner would almost certainly not want to go ahead if they were still involved with a charge on the clubs assets. Hence him being tentative.
Sorry to butt in lads. Maybe it's to do with the risks of spending money on players, and them not working out? He got burned with Grigg (pardon the pun). Once bitten twice shy and all that.
So before he sells to another party he HAS to pay that £10m back one way or another. If he does not pay that £10m back a sale to anybody other than FPP is not going to happen.
I'm sure SD said that the £10m was for 'infrastructure' , academy, repairs, that kind of stuff. Not for buying players.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. There must come a point when he's unable to pay it back. At that point FPP could veto the new buyers just for a laugh.
Maybe. I’m an ex-pat supporter who gets to a game every three years or so. My opinions are worth sod all tbh!
I'm sure you're right although I never believed him tbh. Even if he spent the whole amount it wouldn't increase the value of the club by £9 million.
He also said he'd spent £500k on a new scouting network but then contradicted himself to say he hadn't spent a penny of it. Difficult to decide which is true considering Donald's tendency for hyperbole and terminological inexactitudes.
In the Radio Newcastle interview, he contradicted himself that many times regarding this loan, he probably couldn't remember what is the right answer
Yeah, what I'm saying is that if he spent £1m in January and the sold the club this month, he'd personally be out of £1m. That's almost certainly the reason he didn't do much business. I think he intended to be more aggressive, and wouldn't be if he intended to stay.
Which leads us to wonder what FPP intentions were/are? Wouldn't that be akin to looking after something that is in your interests. We'll soon find out, but it's my opinion that FPP are well and truly still in the frame, or why else would you loan the money on that basis?
I know this is the received wisdom, but him committing to spending £500k on it doesn't mean £500k left the club at that point. He hired a couple of staff, it's a very very slow trickle out of their wages, maybe a few extra costs in terms of equipment, but it's not £500k up front.
I know they're still in the frame although I can't say how I know. Besides I could post it, be called out as a liar and my source would quite rightly deny telling anyone. So I'd accomplish nothing and lose a great source and a good acquaintance.
The question isn't whether they're in the frame mate, it's whether they want to own us now or in a few years time. There is zero chance that Donald convinced them to do something they didn't want to do. If they wanted to buy us outright and Donald didn't want to sell for a price they'd ever accept, they'd have been out the door and never looked back. Which is why I am fairly sure that they proposed this deal and they wanted it this way. Because if they didn't, they wouldn't be involved. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily mean they are comfortable buying us outright today, which is the situation Donald is trying to engineer.
I've no reason at all to dispute ya, I'm just looking at the evidence in front of me to come to my conclusion.
