It wouldn’t be so bad if we got them in when the window opened, if we’d done that with Augustin he’d be three weeks further on. This is all to blame on allowing Roofe to leave and replacing him with someone who had a recall clause yet still paying big money for him
We seriously need to look at Douglas, Forshaw and Roberts before next season starts, all three are made of glass
Regarding Roofe, I thought he wanted to leave for a better wage, so forcing him to play wouldn't IMO have benefited the team. Then we would have lost him anyway for nothing when his contract ended.
I think the point is we could have paid him the money he wanted and still saved more money than we've paid out in loan fees. He was also up to speed with how we played instead of spending weeks & months trying get loanees used to our style.
It's the constant infatuation with our former players that annoys me sometimes. We should move on and not dwell on them IMO. Maybe if Roofe had seen the bigger picture and not been greedy(regardless of what other players earned) and stayed for his last year to maybe help us get promoted, he would have got that wage and more that he thought he was entitled to.
Agree with you about a fixation on former players, I don’t have that, it’s more the point that we’re now in February and still haven’t a fit replacement for him.
