Augustin-watch A quiet first 45 minutes for the new man. The fact that his best chance was a speculative effort from the halfway line probably tells the story of his second 45 minutes in English football. He’s been wanting the ball, getting on the shoulder of the last defender and chasing the goalkeeer down, but he had barely any service. At times he’s come back into midfield, where he’s tried to get on the end of lofted balls, but was unable to do anything with it. That said, he was inches away from connecting on Joe Stanley’s pass, which eventuall went to Hudson at the far post for the Leeds goal.
From what I've seen so far, Augustin just looks ring-rusty. Clearly doesn't have the match sharpness needed to be anything but a passenger in the Championship at this point, and if I can see it, Bielsa is making the right call for both Leeds and the player. Hope he gets to stay on second half to get some minutes in. Edit: Didn't happen. Maybe he'll come on last 20 tomorrow and get a hat-trick.
I missed most of the first half, so relying on you guys for an update. The bit that worried me was saying that he was getting little service. Surely if you're playing in the Bamford role, you're involved throughout the match - holding up play, tackling back, pressing etc.? Has he being doing any of these things, or just hanging around waiting for a pass? Genuine question, as I've obviously not seen much in the first half. If he hasn't been involved in all the other parts of the game then I'm really worried. Could be Nketiah pt2.
Nothing spectacular a few long hopeful passes. Phillips did some lovely passes but he gave a couple of free kicks and penalty away. Phillips is being prepared for next week, I’d imagine Douglas and Augustin will feature again on Monday. To be honest, Augustin looks weeks away to me, I really can’t see him featuring this month
We don't want a Bamford role, we need a striker. If he's up front and dangerous he will take 2 defenders with him. Nketiah scored twice as many goals per minute as Bamford, that's what we lack.
I agree re Augustin, just shows we need to trust Bielsa's judgement - no surprises he was ticked off in the presser yesterday. Poveda on now for Hosannah, first look at him for me too.
Seriously mate, on the 45 minutes he has just played dangerous isn’t a word that springs to mind, he isn’t a patch on Nketiah for speed, if it wasn’t for his pedigree and potential we’ve just thrown £2m down the drain. I’m even more surprised we’ve signed him and not someone who can make an immediate impact. Take two defenders with him? No pace no height no fitness
If we go up this year we should be enquiring about young Hepburn-Murphy, he looks like he might have a future, big strong lad too.
Then we have to say the manager, can't manage, he wanted him, we could have signed the likes of the QPR guy who scored against us, who's gone our rivals hasn't he ?. Starting to think Bielsa's a great fitness coach but average manager.
You can want all you like, matey, but Bielsa likes his single striker - and doing what Bamford does (plus scoring more goals, admittedly). It appears that JKA does none of the above at this moment in time.
I’d like to know what went on between Orta and Bielsa before condemning either. We know how it works, Orta presents Bielsa with options. Bielsa watches a **** load of footage then says yes or no. From what I’m lead to believe Bielsa was offered three strikers, we had zero chance of two and it was a waste of time offering them to Bielsa in the first place so Augustin became a him or nothing scenario as time ran out. When Augustin was offered and footage shown, Bielsa said yes. Do you honestly believe Bielsa was there at the medical? I’d imagine Bielsa was far from impressed when Augustin turned up overweight and unfit.
Maybe that's what will be on his head stone, when he leave Leeds, great fitness coach, average failed manager. Let's hope not ay.
Huggins and McCarron future first-team for me, very encouraging. Poveda never really got a look as most of the play was on the left, but Hudson looks good too on that side. Caprile looks like he has good hands and awareness between the sticks. 2-1 defeat but much to be disappointed with apart from Augustin's fitness, and that's just time I think.
Augustin 45 minutes in the reserves tonight... 66.6% pass accuracy, 10 touches and 1 shot on target. Poveda 40 minutes tonight.... 83.3% pass accuracy, 13 touches and 2 successful take-ons. Like Davy pointed out, it was all down the left hand side so Poveda was a bit starved of action.
**** this for a lark. The weekend depression is already setting in reading reviews of JKA combined with the thought of Forest followed by Brentford over the next 4days. Only two wins will do in my view. We have to turn that corner at some point before it's too late.
