Haaland plays on the right side of Dortmund's front three, and so far is an impact sub coming on for Thorgan Hazard, while noted non-striker Marco Reus plays through the middle

    I knew you’d have an answer <laugh>

But seriously I think Mou needs to try Alli as a false 9 or give Troy a go as Kane-lite

Dele makes the most sense, with Parrott waiting in the wings

...then again, anything other than Lucas up top makes the most sense. I'd sooner see Dier up top than Lucas

    True.

I’d suggest Son but I think Mou wants someone who can act as a pivot as well as a goal threat, rather than changing how he wants to play. So Sonny doesn’t really fit the bill, he’s more of a Vardy than a Kane stylistically when he plays as a 9. That’s probably why he says he doesn’t see him as a striker. With a pivot and some pace coming off the flanks we should be a lot more dangerous and structured going forward.

When we are desperate, very desperate! they could try Dier as acenter forward. He can head the ball, use his bulk and has been known to pass to his forwards!!!!

That's one thing about Tanganga I don't get: he's got a good leap on him, so why isn't he sent up for corners? He could cause some real problems now that we have a decent chance of the corner beating the first man

I think the plan is to keep the fastest defenders back for corners.
In the last couple of matches Lucas has been upfield when we defend corners....Poch always had everyone back.
It seems counterintuitive but I've always wondered why teams don't leave five players up front. The opponents would have to leave at least five back to mark them which would leave a maximum of four attackers in the penalty area against 5 defenders and a goalkeeper.

It's a weird habit of ours to have everyone back for corners going back decades, as we were doing the same under Hoddle, Santini, Jol, Ramos and Redknapp as well

Is it party of some gypsy curse we don't know about?

The tricky thing is that Moura is actually quite useful for defending corners, as he's got a good leap on him for an average sized bloke.
Son's absolutely useless in the air, but he's happy to put himself about and get stuck in defending, too.
I'd normally like to see them both left up on corners, but I'm not sure it's the best idea anymore.

Non more so than under Jol , we could be in the lead and he always took of Lennon and put on a defender leaving us with no pace or out ball which invited the opposition on to us inevitably leading to a late goal

There's only one way to the opponents goal.A carousel is not required!

Well, you can't play teams in the CL without goalscorers….and our thoughts of 4/5 th place might be out the window too in the PL.
Now,can we do anything v Chelsea and Norwich for the same reason.

"What reserves do we have?" asks Churchill. "None!" was the reply. Ironic this!!!!

That was supposedly a conversation between Churchill and Keith Park, CO of 11 Group during the later stages of the Battle of Britain. 11 Group did most of the fighting due to its proximity in the South East of England. It has sometimes been used to suggest that the RAF as a whole had no reserves, and thus were close to defeat. In fact the RAF was just about maintaining it's strength and building far more fighters than the Germans, while losses became unsustainable for the Luftwaffe first. Apologies for going off on a tangent.

I have about 150 books on the Battle of Britain!......I wasn't referring to that.....I was referring to the fact that our goal scoring reserves are non existent!
Maybe,as someone mentioned, Peter Crouch could come out of retirement to at least head the ball from corners....or something!
Surely some players (somewhere) would have wanted a chance in the CL!?

Bergwijn's occasionally played up front for PSV, in fact he was being played as a striker in his last few games before joining us, so we've got at least one more option before admitting defeat and having to actually give Parrott some minutes
