We can all see that the general fitness has improved, but after witnessing the Portsmouth game, it's obviously not yet at a level that can be sustained game after game. After 15/20 minutes I thought we'd have no problem getting a result ... ... but we simply ran out of steam imo. Against a low skill/high energy team like Portsmouth that was a recipe for disaster. With no midweek match expecting a quick start and the energy we know can win games ... ... the training/fitness regime needs to be carefully thought out this week imo.
I had a feeling that was coming - they were starting to look tired in previous matches and after a change to the Wednesday for the Tranmere game on a pitch that would destroy the will of a cross country runner, it was always going to be tough. Big week for fitness. Get everyone firing for Saturday then Tuesday. 4 from remaining 5 at home this month! Could be massive for us
Fitness seems like such a fine line between over and under training, especially in these lower divisions because the games come thick and fast. We're about to play 3 games in 7 days, so hopefully Parkinson is mindful of resting a few of them at points.
Fixture lists you wonder who compiles them and what consideration if any at all, is given to the fans on the terraces. Now we have so many other tin pot competitions to fit in, why cant we have alternate home and away league games, with maybe the odd well spaced back to back game thrown in, if at all, I'm sure that's more or less how it used to be, way back when.
Unless we start playing decent attacking football and score more goals by creating more chances... we are stuck in the turd division for another year... Saturday is a big game, for yes 3 points and a chance to change form quickly... Otherwise....
