Bamford wasn’t first choice either, he was third or fourth choice out of those presented to him. As someone else pointed out, (Eire?) you can take a group of average players and get them playing a system that works and creates both space and chances but if they haven’t the skills to head a ball or find the back of the net now they never will.
But... He wanted £30k a week the same as Bamford, surely we’ve blown more than that on Nketiah and the new guy who is on £35k a week
That’s me done for today, I’ve been on here way too much, I thought watching Leeds Rhinos would ease the pain, what a pile of crap that is... I’m going to have a week off if we lose to Forest.
I thought it was 20 grand a week, but didn't we gamble before with wages in the past. There was no guarantee that paying Roofe more would have got us up.
I heard the same as Bamford, then this week I read Bamford was on £30k a week, if it was £20k it should have been a no brainier to keep him unless we had better lined up
Fair enough. I just don't like pandering to players, it's a game of football after all. If they don't want to play for Leeds Utd, well **** them. I'd rather play outside of the Premiership with players who want to play for the club, than overpaid greedy twats.
Except we never recover the first half of the season form. This just appears to be a repeat of last year. Another 12 point swing FFS.
It's easier to stomach watching the Rhinos. At least they are just ****! If you are **** you will lose games. The football lot aren't ****, just 3 of em.
TBF though, the Rhinos were dominate for 10 plus years. They lost a lot of the old guard and haven't replaced them yet, but the youth side of things should help.
Spurs 1-0 up against Citeh. I'm going to put my reputation on the line and say Liverpool are going to win the Premiership this season.
PSG in top 5 teams in Europe, RB Liepzeg were 3 and 6 in his 2 seasons which is top half Premier league standard.
Few things to say having caught up with all the posts this evening. Costa is quick and skilful and skinned his man repeatedly yesterday, no problem - then he made Naismith standing 2 yards in front of him look like MOM by trying the same cross every single time and being intercepted. Why not pull the ball back to the penalty spot once in a while just to mix it up? If there was someone coming in ( Klich, Roberts, Dallas) they'd probably get it over the bar anyway but they might screw it up at some point and actually score. If Poveda can keep the ball under crossbar height when he shoots I'd give him a run. The story from Big Jack about getting the thick ear for impeding the keeper the other day stuck with me too. Kiko is being targeted at set plays as the best chance of a poor team scoring, rightly or wrongly. Charlton said the opposing keeper told his defenders to leave him unprotected that day, and then came out and belted him. Part of the Kiko problem is offenders pushing our own players onto him, so maybe leaving him unprotected would have two benefits - giving him a better chance to come for the ball or be impeded, and letting the ref get an uninterrupted view of the situation. Course, it won't happen, and one thing is certain, he's panicking at every set play at the moment and won't improve in a hurry as his confidence is gone whether he admits it or not. This defeat doesn't feel any better 24 hours on, and I agree with Emu, the time has come to give Meslier a shot. For me, our three best strikers of a ball are Harrison, Alioski and Pablo, and none of them are scoring. As Paddy our primary striker isn't even in that list and we really need goals to kill teams off, I think we need to bring Augustin in as soon as Bielsa will countenance it. It will give Paddy a kick up the ass and some space to get his head together, and Augustin will sink or swim and we'll at least know what we've bought. I really like Paddy and there's a good striker in there, but he needs to show that every game, not one in five. Something has to change now, or we'll sink into the playoff picture even earlier than last year.
Except, it's all about getting promoted. If we don't go up this season then Bielsa goes, the 'average players', he's improved go back to being average and we on't be a joy to watch.
