Which is us is due to obtain a lovely new blue passport? Unfortunately I have to wait another couple of years unless I claim that my passport has been lost.

I actually read this earlier but couldn't reply because of the weekend's shopping. I did actually glance at it and thought 'is this something about rabbit droppings' ? But on the way I thought it might be to do with chickens - but then I finally realized it was bull++++. Only somebody who can't count would consider this as a win for democracy - how many people at the General Election actually voted for remain parties ? And how many voted for the shower of a Government which claimed a majority based on a minority of the vote ? Actually the last 4 years have shown up the deficiencies of British democracy, and brutally exposed the fault lines in British society. Ironically your 'freedom day', which was supposed to be about sovereignty will see none of it, because you will wake up on Feb. 1st as law takers but not law makers - thus losing sovereignty. Nothing will have changed other than that you have no representation in Brussels. Over the next year you will be reminded again and again that you cannot cherry pick what you want to keep of the EU. all the 'goodies' like tariff free trade - you cannot keep trade as it is without concessions on such things as EU regulations. There is no way that you can have a deal which is as good as the one you have now. Either Bojo has to make massive concessions or he has to ask for another extension, or we have a hard Brexit on our hands in December (which is actually what he and the Brexiteer hard liners deserve, but I would not want to inflict it on the rest).

Your must have been out of contact for quite a while. Boris has already said he will not accept being bullied over access to our fishing water. He has said we will not accept the ECJ court after 2020. He has said we will not align with EU standards making clear the UK will accept tariffs and quotas in return. We will also trade on WTO rules if need be. The days of the EU controlling the UK will be over at the end of the year.

The British FPTP system is much preferred by the UK and the Tories smashed the opposition. The electorate clearly wanted Brexit being done and finally leaving this faltering club tonight. All the forecasts show the UK outperforming the EU in years to come. The UK will be the first of many dissatisfied member states who reject the current creeping into a single state run by the Germans.

Hopefully Trump will now start to seriously squeeze the EU into having fairer import duties, it will only add to the pressure on the EU's negotiating team.

I can see from your tone that you are inwardly preparing for a hard Brexit - but how many other Britons are on the same wavelength ? As your 'hard Brexit' approaches how will they react ? How many 'other Britons' want to jump into bed with Trump and the USA ? Will you still be rabbiting on about sovereignty when the Chinese are building your railway systems and your nuclear power stations and the Americans have taken over your health system ? When British worker's rights, and their environmental protections, have been stripped to the bone to make them 'attractive' for foreign investment ?

It would appear that Johnson has finally woken up to what he has done.

“We are in a hole, we’re in a mess. But we’ve got to get out of it.... in a hole the size of HS2, the only thing to do is keep digging.” So is the mess he was talking about HS2 or Brexit. Which ever of the two he was referring to is likely to be hugely expensive for the country. £66Bn is the cost of Brexit so far, and £110Bn+ for HS2. It is a good job that the government is now prepared to borrow to pay for all these things.

"We're going to replicate the 40 EU free trade agreements that exist before we leave the European Union so we've got no disruption of trade," Fox told a Conservative party fringe event in Manchester.

"I hear people saying 'oh we won't have any [free trade agreements] before we leave'. Well believe me we'll have up to 40 ready for one second after midnight in March 2019," he told cheering Tory activists.

The Trade Secretary added that "All these faint hearts saying we cannot do it - it's absolute rubbish."

Where is this great event taking place, and will it be on TV?

By the end of this transition period there will be many trade deals in place. The US is aiming for one in place in 9 months.

I can see why many with only negative thoughts fail in life.

If the USA is hoping for one in 9 months then it will be on their terms SH. chlorinated chickens, gene manipulated agricultural products, and control over the NHS - what they mean by a trade deal is that they want a dumping ground for the goods which fail EU standards.

I don't "like" it but that's exactly what it is.

I actually saw this while shopping Frenchie. Was thinking about including it on here but it didn't work out. Not sure how the World could have been poorer without the Spice Girls though !

Unfortunately I had to renew mine last year, so I have one with the pointless "EU" printed on the front. But I'm happy to keep it for another 9 years, as it will remind me when I travel throughout the world of the bad old days - it's a bit like my old who used to keep her old ration books.

The English sparkling wine is going down a treat and it's great to see the bitter old ex-pats on here still moaning away.
Oh well, back to the party.

I had a feeling that you would appear tonight ! Funnily enough the only times you ever come on here are either to gloat or to hurl insults at your fellow Hornets - I have not seen any one post from you over the last couple of years which does not fit the one category or the other - so why do you bother, or is your life so empty.

I think that anyone who believes that English sparkling wine is good has a serious problem with their taste buds.

Sorry OFH but it is the other way round
New world wine is far superior to French wine and English wine is slowly catching up with them
Champagne is the most over rated and over priced drink on the planet now and on a par with the Spanish version
Italian sparkling is better and cheaper

It tastes rank and when the wife wants one bottle, once a year thank god, it makes me nearly cry buying it.

I might agree with you about Champagne being overrated and overpriced, which is why I rarely drink it. With regards to new world wine some are good and others not so good, just the same as French ones. I did a blind tasting with my son-in-law last year, and we both agreed that the French wine was better than the one from Chile and the one from Oz. Anyway it was fun to try it out.

I did that about thirty years ago and thought the expensive French wine out classed the new world wines
    But not now
    Tastes change
My favourite whiskey is still Glenfiddick
