Morning all. Wet and windy in rural France, but at least it is not cold. Sorted my new power socket yesterday, so no need now for a trailing extension lead. I quite enjoy doing electrical jobs as you can see immediately if you did it correctly, whereas plumbing is my pet hate. You think that everything is fine until you put the water supply back on, then find that you have a connection with an occasional drip. Have a good day whatever you might have to do.
Get the woodburner blazing, that will help dry it out. Sunshine and showers forecast to continue here, but very mild.
Good morning from across the mainland.. Heating away.... and even the dehumidifier on.. Can't oprn some windows etc... Otherwise a good day...
Morning all. Overcast and I think it might be trying to rain again, but still very mild. Talking to Mme earlier about bread, and she was saying that in the very rich part of her family in days gone by, thinly cut bread for sandwiches was the thing to have. In the poorer part of her family where there were rather a lot of children, thinly cut bread was also the norm simply to make a loaf go round them all. As we have good fresh bread that we need a bread board and knife for it surprises me when I go to England and see shelves full of sliced bread in plastic bags. Not something that most people here would want. Enjoy your day whatever you have planned.
There is an awful lot of sliced bread sold in French supermarkets. I agree there is nothing better than buying bread from a local French baker, although a recent French report claimed many bakers outside of Paris have lost the art of making a decent loaf. Our local Waitrose sells excellent bread made with French flour, although not good for my oversize waistline.
Checked on my visit to LeClerc today and they had ten loaves on sale. Then went to SuperU to carry out some more research, and they had eight. No, the shelves had not been emptied in the rush to buy it.
The French have stocked up on the way home from McDonalds Are your supermarkets also closing down or the yellow vests still blocking the roads?
Well that turned out to be a surprise. Friday night is football night for me, and this one took me off to Ajaccio to see Chateauroux. Ajaccio have two ex-Watford players in their ranks and currently occupy one of the play-off places. One breakaway goal after 34 minutes for the Chats, then defend for the rest of the game. Not comfortable, and then 5 added minutes. Still they held firm, and have risen up the table a couple of places. A good night, so I will allow myself an extra glass of some very nice merlot.
