Obama is a lame duck President and with a split congress (Republican House and Democrat Senate) as well as dissention in his own party any legislation he wants to pass is going to be blocked so he is trying to get votes where ever he can. There is a large Jewish community in the US and this is why he is cosying up to the Israelis.
