In what way would recognising Palestine as a member of the UN make peace?

Netanyahu thanked Obama for defending Israel, which fears that a Palestinian state drawn by the U.N. would include borders leaving the Jewish state vulnerable to attack

confirmation that they never wanted the peace arafat is supposed to have turned down.
Israel never wanted a 2 state solution

This. Obama is a lame duck President and with a split congress (Republican House and Democrat Senate) as well as dissention in his own party any legislation he wants to pass is going to be blocked so he is trying to get votes where ever he can. There is a large Jewish community in the US and this is why he is cosying up to the Israelis.

for a start it would recognise it as a legitimate state, non recognition doesnt allow for interventions/talks/pressure etc

the question is why israel and america dont?

Jack, we all know this. just in recent discussions/debates the pro israeli's seem to think it not so

I know the thread will become a one upmanship contest, however after the comments/responses from USA and other politicians throughou the world IMO it is clear who doesnt want peace

As some commentators said the 'arab spring' is all good as long as its not ALL arabs. the hypocricy of the USA is amazing but people excuse it

British politicians in 1949 were saying about the jewish lobby and americas support of israel, noothing new. yet people still argue even though the truth is in front of them

    abbas said

'We are not going to annul Israel's legitimacy," he said. "Nobody can annul Israel's legitimacy. It's a recognized state," he said. "We wish to isolate Israel's policy."

so where does this 'they have to recognise israel' or no peace come from? pure and utter bullshit,

Not really, they don't even make up 15/20 percent of the country, probably not even 10%, thing is they run the country, i.e. the media, corporation's, politics, they own the place.

and if you doubt the threats:

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman warned that a unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state would have "dire consequences."

Speaking at the Second Agricultural Conference in Kibbutz Revivim, in southern Israel, Lieberman stressed that "while there is no room for threats" should the Palestinian Authority's recognition efforts prevail, the move will have "dire consequences."

The main reason for Israels objection is that they worry that possible Palestinian accession to the ICC could lead to the pursuit of war crimes charges at the Hague and say there is potential for rising tensions to trigger violence in the West Bank. Settlers there have received Israeli military training in preparation for this scenario.

also the negotiations would then feature around the 1967 agreements, and israel dont want this as they have built where they shouldnt have and would have to give up the ground. Netanhayu has called it 'unrealistic' despite what clinton said about arafat

You haven't proven anything that you've claimed, TFWNN.

Obama is appeasing the Jewish vote, not doing Israel's bidding.
Nothing you've said remotely indicates anything else.

The US is very pro-Israel and the Israelis don't like the idea of Palestine getting any political footing.
Is this supposed to be news?

what was i trying to prove PNP?

Israel specifically asked for the USA help with this (and the independent flotilla enquiry) to be vetoed, and the USA (Obama) has obliged. Despite his earlier views on the Arab Spring etc. So Israels biatch for me.

Appeasing the jews is doing israels bidding if israeli politics dictate american politics.

The thread wasnt it about being news, just confirmation that america is israels biatch
