Could be the solution if they had the desire, but also could be toxic hanging about the club in the manner of Rodders.
If you look at our time in the premier league our best players were loan players..by far. The loans in this pub league have not worked due to our incompetence in recruitment. The more we spent the bigger waste of money they turned out to be. Even borini was better as a loaner than when we made him ours. Please prove to me that Evans, rose, Alonso, welbeck were worse than the likes rodwell, fletcher, ndong et al. This jumpers for goalposts twaddle about having a team of talented young uns may look good in 1950's comic books but it just doesnt wash any more. Tell a talented young player he can stay with us on x quid a week and more than likely get a regular game , or he can join a top 6 team on 3x a week and likely be in the stiffs for at least a year. Fans bleated about asoro and maja leaving but you cant blame them 1 iota. They have sorted their financial life out with a sign of the pen. Anybody who begrudges them that needs their head examining. Unless you are barca or real, you are in essence a feeder club and this trickles all the way down.
Good letter Bri and thank you, you are right in many respects, and we did have some great loan players in the past but since say M'Vila's loan, one of the best ever imo., I can off hand think of many that have only restricted our own players, take Assoro and Maja, we favoured loanees from ManU and Boro., who greatly contributed to our decline with under par game after game, as often happens as management try to justify **** recruitments. My championing will go further and I think we had two young promising full backs in Josh and Tom Robson who along with Ethan were once outstanding prospects we have lost two while farting about with Love and a prat from Everton instead of giving Tom and Josh a chance, and this is repeated over and over imo. On top of this the benefit of those who do play well is that they return to their parent clubs and we are back to square one. I think loans should be the last resort, not the first as with previous managers, Bruce and Coleman in particular. I, like you, base my views independently, using past experience and observation, we may both be wrong and the truth is we probably are, and the "truth" is somewhere in between, but that's what makes this game, and this forum, so interesting.
According to Nixon, surprisingly linked with a loan move for ex-Liverpool striker Barry Duncan, who was signed by Fiorentina for 2M Euros.
Loads of rumours today. Also linked with a wing back from Swansea (forgotten his name). Hopeful for a couple of good left field signings like Scowan the other night.
Think we do need a wing back, and by the sounds of it, so does Parky, as he tried Robson there in a practice match apparently. Nostradamoose also mentioned that Scowan can play there too, so he might make do if he can't get a specialist WB in.
Yeah it's in the Scottish Sun ... ... Celtic transfer news: Luca Connell ‘wanted on loan by Sunderland and Barnsley’ He was at Bolton and can play left side of midfield. I don't remember him as being tough enough but I didn't think Hume was tbh.
I'm in two minds about it, they are direct promotion rivals and I've always had a strong feeling that wherever he goes next he'll score a hatful. It'd be a risk as well to get rid and maybe not have time to get another forward in, I think our remaining business depends more on waiting on other clubs than it does on moving anyone on.
@GraemeBailey Understand that Sunderland have agreed a deal with Bristol City to sign highly-rated forward Antoine Semenyo, have been in talks for a weeks but have finally managed to get it done. Loan until end of the season.
Rumours we've agreed a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo on loan from Bristol City. Unsure how that impacts the fact it sounds like we've all but signed Barry Duncan with the option to purchase who is also a forward. Unless that's Grigg and McNulty out the door.
Sunderland have agreed a deal with Bristol City to sign Antoine Semenyo, TEAMtalk can reveal. A number of club were keen on the 20-year-old forward, who almost joined Chelsea last year. The Blues had agreed a deal for the player, but were prevented from landing him because of their transfer ban. Now a Sunderland insider has confirmed to TEAMtalk that Semenyo is moving to the Stadium of Light on loan for the rest of the season.
Have tbh, wasn't expecting anymore business due to no outgoings. Pleasantly surprised about Semenyo, provides some competition for Goochy and can play on the right as well as up top. Not sure he will be the central forward like, especially if we get Duncan. I would be well chuffed at getting him in like, really highly rated and read it's a loan with a view to a permenant move. Chuck in Declan John for LWB cover/competition and that would be a cracking window.
