If I remember rightly, the assistant referee on that touchline must have been at least 40 yards away? It looks more out than in and I would guess the AR would give it out 9 times out of 10. It's great refereeing if it's in but with the distances and the possibility of things affecting line of sight I would say it's more of a guess than a 100% decision. That's the problem we think we have.... we never seem to be on the right side of a guess! It's the sense of injustice!
Not calling you out here, Jonny, but the linesman was 50 yds away from play, & his view blocked by a Leeds player. I don't think he made a decision at all, as he just couldn't see what was going on! This is the same linesman that missed the 'corner', btw. Actually, I thought there were 2 'corner' decisions, one fairly soon after the other. Ref even indicated a corner for one before he was surrounded by aggressive Millwall yobbos & changed his mind. Think he had to change his underpants too, going by what I witnessed! If you watch the game again & examine, I think you'll find that there is obvious bias from the ref, intentional or otherwise, particularly in the first half. He made some awful decisions, never in our favour, and on a number of occasions, made no decision at all - again, not in our favour. There was one occasion in the second half where one of our attackers was assaulted & literally flung off the ball - a nailed on yellow - but he allowed play to go on to no particular advantage & never came back to act. Shocking. I'm not talking about an innocuous foul here, it was serious enough to stop play. As usual, our players just get up & dust themselves down. Had it been done to any other team, there would have been a free kick & a yellow awarded before the poor sod could have rolled over screaming for the twentieth time.
I love the fact that our players do that. Leeds United - setting the standard for fair play And yet we get no recognition for it whatsoever. Can't think of of any other teams in the Championship that 'just get on with it'. They're all at it, rolling around. Also stopping a quickly taken free kick by standing over the ball - blatant cheating which goes unpunished. We also don't time waste - even when we're winning Credit to Bielsa for this.
This drives me mad every time. We like to play it quickly and the refs allow teams to do this to us every game. We should just take it anyway and if they block it it's a yellow. Or it used to be. I regularly got booked for it!
Actually there were two occasions when Leeds players were literally thrown off the ball right near just about the same place close to the touch line within a few minutes of each other and I howled at the tv/no one in particular both times - outrageous non-calls! Even 50 meters down the line those ball in and out play are quite easy to make - with a player standing in between just makes it a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, the tv footage enables us to see ball was never out, despite the poor angle we have. Happy to debate it, don’t feel called out at all!
Agree with that strategy of take the quick kick and if the opponent plays it it’s a caution. However if it simply hits the opponent it’s just poor play. I feel players aren’t confident, for good reason, that refs will get it right! In my observations Leeds players, participated Ayling and Phillips are equally guilty of picking up balls to delay opponents from quick restarts. It does make me fume when I see it and I deal with it in games I do. Funny anecdote. I recently went as far as telling coaches and captains at a recent coin toss that I would caution any player who ran up to the ball to delay a free kick. One of the coaches asked if he could have a few moments to instruct his players before we kicked off!!
Are you paying? Would love to discuss it with a Lincolnite, but unfortunately the game is too close to the Uddersfield match
O One of these days I’m just going to have to come to Ireland! I’ve heard you’re trying to keep up with the Scots in the whiskey department..,
I didn't get to see it on tv as my red button recording didn't work. Someone (Eire?) mentioned (rightly) that the camera view was from the 'line side' of the ball, so would surely have appeared 'in' when presented from that angle, even if completely over the line. Unless it was shown from another angle. Was it? The other point I tried (& failed) to make was the lino was able to make a clear decision from 50yds away, yet failed to see their 'keeper's save causing a corner that wasn't awarded. He had an unobstructed view from 25yds & would have had a clear view of the travelling ball deviating once it hit the 'keeper's hand. So how can we trust an obstructed 50yd decision when he can't see what happened half the distance away with an unobstructed view. Oddly enough, both decisions went against Leeds. Coincidence or incompetence? Or both?
LOL. Right, get your ref's hat on. I'm playing for Leeds (brilliantly, of course! ), and I'm about to take a free kick. A Millwall yobbo stands in front of me, not for the first time, to stop me taking a quick free. I rattle the ball into his groin as hard as I can. What does the ref do? Over to you, @JonnyLosAngeles I witnessed similar in a match, though it was knees, not balls (such is the quality of Partick Thistle players). The ref yellowed the free kick taker, not the ****er that had rolled halfway across the pitch screaming!! This from a country where a yellow was issued to a player crossing himself in the tunnel. (Apparently this can cause a riot & merits a yellow - his explanation to the press!).
Nah, not got the skills to do that. Just Google it & look at 'images'. Loads of them. This is the most recent mention I can find. It's the very last line. Interesting article too, btw. Might make your eyebrows raise, @JonnyLosAngeles You wouldn't believe what referees get up to in Scotland. https://videocelts.com/2019/07/blogs/latest-news/celtic-fall-silent-over-sfas-refereeing-scandal/
