And in another switch, a tory government nationalises a railway:

BBC News - Northern: Rail firm brought under government control
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-51298820

I understand that South-West trains might go the same way.
How 'Euro' of this tory government to do this.

I hope so. They have been so bad recently.

I'm not even going to try to get into work tomorrow through the chaos and have taken the day off...

I dont understand how First can own both the trains and bus service around Southampton but not organise a proper replacement bus service...

I think I can. They can't afford it. That's why they'll probably be nationalised too.

Happens with bus routes all the time, especially in London - companies make impossibly low bids to win contracts, then can’t deliver without cutting costs. Turns out they can’t reduce costs without hurting services. Who knew?

On the other hand if you wish to get from your house in (say) Hampstead to (say) Padstow Pfeffel and pals are more than happy to provide a subsidy. Saves a few hours sitting in the Range Rover on the M5.

Just over 24 hours before we all have so much more sovereignty to benefit from.
I think I will use mine to pass a very quick law, stating that Liverpool FC players can’t run faster than jogging pace, when playing us.
Oh and You’ll Never Walk Alone. Another law making refs start games before they finish the song, instead of indulging them every game.

Tomorrow is the end of our formal membership of the European Union and Boris Johnson is keen to press on with the trade deal with the EU as soon as possible. He has said it will be a hard series of discussions but he is extremely confident that his chosen negotiating team have the necessary skills, intelligence and grasp of international politics and business to bring about a successful conclusion to the talks.

I'm not so sure .....

Put an unruly mop of blonde hair on each of them and you have Johnson.

All this talk regarding the Tories nationalising some parts of the railway is confusing. When the Labour Party said they were going to nationalise it you were all for it. Now the Tories have started to nationalise the failing franchises you are criticising them. What on earth would you expect them to do? Surely you would criticise them if they took no action? I know they poo poohed the Labour Party for wanting to nationalise the whole system. To my knowledge they don’t intend going back on what they said. I just don’t see what they could do other than what they have! I think if they nationalise the southern it would be for the best. No one else has tried to do away with the guards that to me doesn’t make sense not having guards! But hey what do I know.
