The point I'm trying to make, is all fans are the same at every club, Arsenal fans were much worse than ours when I was in their end against Leeds. If you watch a few championship games on tv, lots get booed off, we just go quiet like half time yesterday and boothe ref not our team.

Don't worry about it, when Corona virus gets here, they will end the season, with no promotion or relegation when the new season starts :emoticon-0106-cryin

So how far are we meant to take this negativity ban. Are we allowed to say the team is playing badly, when they are playing badly? Are we allowed to be frustrated at a bad miss?

There's a difference between a tirade of abuse and commenting on the good and bad of a game/performance. For example there are comments saying we're rubbish, clueless etc - and there are comments on whether someone/the team are having a good or bad game, or expressing frustration at letting soft goals in again.

Where we differ on this, is I think it's fine to say you think someone is playing badly, or that the team aren't playing well as a unit. It's ok to express concern at a bad run of form... in our case be concerned that history might repeat itself. But it's not constructive to say that a player is sh*t or continually moan about them. I'm not sure what you expect from a forum. Do we just not comment when we're playing badly? Or do we keep playing the band while the titanic sinks with a stiff upper lip.

But i don't think internet forum's are major thing. The player I know pays no attention to it, though i accept some might. Criticism from fans is an occupational hazard.

Direct abuse directed at a player on social media however is different and not acceptable. At the ground... the interaction between a team and its fans is important in a game and has a potentially direct impact on the fortunes of the team. The mocking of jay-roy grot a few years back for example was both bullying a kid and counter-productive to both player and team.

I don't see it in black and white like you.

    Negativity you say.....

Let me throw this at ya! I reckon Bamford cost us promotion last night! Now he scored 2 goals vs a tired Millwall team, Bielsa will carry on playing him instead of picking the new Yeboah-Augustin.

Stick that in her pipes! :emoticon-0172-mooni

It's having the options on the bench, that matters, now we have them before we didn't.

    Post #345:

"Had a wee look at the table at this stage last year. The most obvious thing is that the table is more compact this season, especially the top half. We're 2 points behind last season, & +2 ahead in GD. Doing ok & long may it continue. Btw, only QPR (1) & WBA (5) have scored more goals than us, so why are we so fcuking fixated on scoring more goals?"

This is the link I use. Just have to change the 'round' drop down.

because we create far more opportunities than WBA and QPR and had we taken them, we'd be out of sight at the top of the table

There's no denying that we create more than most, and I keep hearing about how many Bamford misses. However, isn't our conversion rate something like 24% compared to Bristol's 74% (was it Eire that posted the table the other day?). I'd love to know the breakdown of the chances that fall to individual players, & their individual conversion rates. Sure, Bamford will be up there, but might some be above him in percentage missed? No idea, but would love to know.

I'm personally not too upset at Bamford. Our problem with strikers over the years has mainly been one of them not getting into goal scoring positions, with a consequent low goals tally for the season. Bamford is particularly adept at getting into goal scoring positions. Absolutely no question about this. There is no guarantee that anyone replacing him will be as good in this respect. Yes, they might convert more, but if they're rubbish at being in the right place, the end result might be much worse that Bamford's. We've got to be careful what we wish for.

Point in bold is a fair one in that its very difficult to assess that, likewise the way different teams play can make certain types of chances more likely which may suit one player over another. However, as for how adept he is at getting into goal scoring ops compared to others? It's equally hard to say, as he plays in a team that dominates posession and chances. As i've said on countless occasions, there's no doubt that his ability to bring others into play, also helps the team do this.

But re conversion rates, I've posted the expected goals stats a bunch of times (not the perfect, but better than just shots to goals ratio). Including a comparison with our other 'forwards' - all had xg's worse than average, bamford's was the worst i think maybe with Klich - but also it's more his 'job'. Every other player in the top scorers charts in the championship had better xg performance than him. Not ragging him, just providing the stat.
