Cortese has said that he doesn't want Saints to make up the numbers in the PL, he wants us to be a real force. Wouldn't it be great if we could become the attractive side that players want to play for and not just the team they join because we are in the PL. That way we could keep players and our manager. Getting a bit ahead of myself here..I shall go and lie down.
He has ambition..that is why he left Scun thorpe. Think 18 months is a bit too short a time scale, but I bet Liverpool is his dream job. Bearing in mind how few good English managers there are..he could yet end up England manager. Can you just imagine what foreign journalists would make of his interviews
he could make southampton a top club. why leave when he can take the credit for bringing a club up through two leagues and getting them into the champions league? definitely dreaming aha
More ambitious than moving to his dream club Liverpool would be getting Saints into the top 4. This would offer him his greatest challenge which would require the most ambition, I hope he sees it this way!
That's what I meant..we need to grow together so his ambitions are satisfied here. Not only Cortese has dreams.
Whilst i would love liverpool or arsenal, i need to be sensible about this. We'd have played west ham and reading in the 7 or 8 days before the game, and would have middlesbrough 3 or 4 days after the game. So another easy home game (ie aldershot) where we can easily play the fringe players please!
That's a very good point Brendy, I hadn't considered the congestion of matches. At the end of the day, the league is of paramount importance, so the easier the run we have in the cups the better. That isn't to say the cups aren't important, they just aren't as important as the league.
1. Aldershot at home (then we can play a top side in the QF) 2. Newcastle at home (beating Pardew would be sweet) 3. Arsenal at home (Oxo and Theo can come home for a thrashing)
Forgot that the Cup match would be in October..I'd already spotted that as a difficult series of matches. League every time.
Did Pardew do anything to us really? He was involved in the initial construction of our team, would have got us into play-offs apart from -10 points, and gave us a trophy and a great day out. Everything was done quietly with no public rows so presumably he was happy with his pay-off. Would enjoy beating Newcastle because we would get through another round and would also prove the superiority of Adkins and the team, but have no real axe to grind with Pardew.
Agree, I have nothing against Pardew. In fact i'm grateful to him for puting the wheels in motion, signing some of our best players and getting us to a Wembley cup final which was one of the most enjoyable days out that a Saints fan could possible have. All in all, fairplay to him at Newcastle and I wish him all the best.
Remember that match where we were 1.0 down at home with a few minutes to go and won 3.1..someone with a better memory will know exactly the one I mean.
Is that the one were Shearer walks off the pitch with a face like a torn arsehole, swearing at the cameras?
