Smart motorways were introduced on the M42 Motorway by the then Secretary of Transport Ruth Kelly in the Blair/Brown Government <ok>

There have been several Ministers of Transport since then. The present one is the first to review the policy, but he still wants to keep it, just make it safer.

Getting back on topic ...classic TV shows.

Yesterday I watched a later episode of Minder.

Terry has been replaced by Arthur’s cousin at this point. The show was not as good as the original, but the acting and writing in this episode was still superb, and light years away from anything you will see on TV today.

Even if the cause of the problem was a Tony Blair Labour Government?.... was you a Labour supporter when Blair was in power then?.... if you won't let a word be said against him?

I voted for him the first twice, not the third. Anyway, I doubt if it was Ruth Kelly's idea, even if she gave it the okay. The police are against them now, but I doubt if they were then. I use the A1 when I go oop north.

Alistair Stewart forced to resign, after a distinguished 40 year career with ITV News.

    His “crime” ?

You are barely going to believe this, but it’s true.

He’s offended some woke ethnic minorities ...by directly quoting a piece from Shakespeare that contained the word “apes”.

The Twitter thread concerned has absolutely nothing to do with either politics or race. But he’s offended some people, and lost his job.

The woke left will eat itself at some point. I see several 70s/80s gay rights activists have been “cancelled” for not following the current line so the purges have begun already.

I've only just looked at this story, and there is a lot more to it than your post suggests, as anyone can find out if they want to. His series of tweets breached editorial guidelines and his decision to resign was supported by ITN and ITV.Thank goodness it wasn't that arm of communism, the BBC.

The BBC started an interesting new documentary last night about life on benefits.

The first episode was filmed at Peckham Jobcentre, and featured a variety of people on Universal Credit.

The programme was fairly balanced, and showed both sides of the benefits story - those who genuinely and justifiably need help having fallen on hard times, and those who are clearly gaming the system.
